have to agree with most on this board that the best ACT I FINALE is the one from "Dreamgirls"...not only does it have a killer song in "And I am Telling You I'm Not Going", but just at the point where Effie yells "you're gonna loooove meeeeeee"....she is pulled back only to have the curtain drop down on her and have The Dreams (Deena and Lorell) come strutting on stage with her replacement Michelle Morris to the tune of "Love, Love You Baby"... a finale that not only had people clamoring on their feet but also didnt leave a dry eye in the house...AMAZING!!!!
I Wish I May - Witches of Eastwick. An Act One finale that culminated in three women criss-crossing over the audiences heads and then disappearing on up into the flies, singing all the way! Far better than just shooting into the air IMO

I also like the Little Shop closer...*SPOILER* where Seymour is feeding Orin's body parts to Audrey II. Not a memorable song, but it gave me goosebumps.
Got to second Sweeney Todd, Ragtime, Dreamgirls, and Sunday..

I'd have to say Along Came Bialy, Tomorrow Belongs to Me (Reprise)...and...I can't think of any others, I'm sure there's a lot, but I just woke up and mleh.
I love the Along Came Bialy...five parts, merged together, how can you go wrong?
I'm glad someone mentioned Old Maid from 110 in the Shade. I just saw it again - with Marin Mazzie - and it's SO powerful.
One Day More - Les Miz
Sarah's Funeral - Ragtime; very moving and powerful ending to the 1st act
I've been listening to Bat Boy and I actually really like that act one finale "Comfort and Joy" I never saw it but I imagine it's pretty powerful.
