A huge majority of schools with BFA's have a re-audition after two years, Emerson not being an exception. Within most of them if you work hard and prove you want to be in BFA, you are fine. Some people move to BA voluntarily, and in that re-audition time some people from BA move to BFA.

To include NYU in the discussion of top BFA acting schools is absurd. Every post that lists it as a top BFA school makes me wince, and it goes to prove that people post here without really knowing what they are talking about. NYU has arguably the best graduate program in the country right now (Yale is the other top MFA school), but the graduate (MFA) program is completely separate from the undergraduate program. They accept way too many students at the undergraduate level, and if you are serious about pursing a career as an actor, NYU undergrad is NOT the school for you.

The top three BFA schools--in my opinion--are unquestionably CalArts, NCSA, and Juilliard. All three have great reputations and the best faculty in the country. All three also accept classes of around 15-20 students, so there is tons of individual attention. These schools are the three top conservatories offering BFA training.

Minnesota also has a great program, but it is still relatively new.
