Merrily We Roll Along is probably my favorite. I have been listening to "Allegro" a lot in the past 3 months and I enjoy its overture also.

Great lists. I wish more shows today included overtures - if for no other reason than to get the audience quieted down before the rest of the show starts - but also to set the audience up for the overall mood of the show. Seems like modern audiences don't have the attention span for this sort of thing, but I still like them.

a newer overture that I really like is the one from Curtains.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad
