Best Movie Musical Award#1

If there was an award given out specifically to the best movie musical, who would win for this year: Once, Hairspray, Enchanted, Across the Universe, Sweeney Todd or some other movie I am forgetting?

Maybe Walk Hard and I'm Not There could also be included.

It's a toss up between Sweeney and Hairspray! They both had good things about them...

If Enchanted counts, it should win. otherwise, Sweeney Todd.

Sweeney Todd is the best movie musical in many years, but "Once" is truly an unforgettable musical film!

I was just telling a friend the other night that I think Sweeney is the best stage to screen transfer yet to date.
Those that say they were disappointed in anything other than weak singing voices, I really don't know what they are looking for.

Ahhh man... see the thing is, I enjoyed Hairspray most. But Sweeney was, without a doubt, INCREDIBLY well done in all aspects. And I'd give Johnny and Helena the best acting awards in a heartbeat. But as far as the movies themselves? I think I might still have to go with Hairspray- but I'm biased because I just love the whole story so much more than Sweeney Todd. Plus the music is insanely, INSANELY catchy whereas with Sweeney there's a couple of songs that I really enjoy out of context.

But yeah, Hairspray with Sweeney coming in a close second :)

And I never did get to see Across the Universe, but it looked amazing and I love the cast recording, so had I seen it, it may well have been a contender in my list as well!

I don't need a life that's normal. That's way too far away. But something next to normal would be okay. Something next to normal is what I'd like to try. Close enough to normal to get by.

I could never say Hairspray because they cut Mama I'm A Big Girl Now and In the Big House, and I love both of those songs.
Also I didn't like the way they did Big, Blonde and Beautiful.

The changes and cuts made in Sweeney work much better for me.

What about "ONCE"?! Did everyone forget about this beautiful film?

In my opinion, I think the best movie musical of the year is Sweeney, with Hairspray in am extremly close second place. But overall this was a great year for movie musicals. I really enjoyed some like Across the Universe or Walk Hard, some I loved like Hairspray or Sweeney, and some I hope to see later like Once or I'm Not There
