I was looking at pictures from the 2012 Tony Awards red carpet and I realized that the musical actresses all come with their hair red carpet ready, then most presumably put on their wig for when they perform, but then they're back to having event hair for the rest of the night. They must have to pin up their hair under their wigs, or they wouldn't fit correctly, but they never seem to have a single hair out of place when they're back in their seats! How do they do this? Last year I specifically noticed it with Kelli O'Hara, Audra McDonald, and Cristin Milioti, but now that I think about it I have noticed it with other actresses in the past.

Efficient Glam-Squads.
I've noticed that sometimes actresses who are not wigged for their shows will wear their hair differently than how it's styled in the show, something in between their show hair and red carpet hair. I've noticed this for Lea Michele, Cristin Milioti, and Elizabeth A. Davis.
Kristin Chenoweth, who won her Tony mere moments after her show's Tony performance, wore a glam wig when she accepted the award. I remember her saying something to the effect of, "I've never changed so fast in my entire life!" But really, a bit rude for them to schedule her category directly after that performance as she was the presumed frontrunner. How embarrassing to have accepted that award in that costume. I think that same year, Best Actor in a Musical was right after the Parade performance, and if Brent Carver won, he would have been in his Leo Frank costume. Same with Gavin Creel when he was nominated for Millie.
Which brings me to...has anyone accepted a Tony while still in costume?

Bernadette Peters accepted in costume for Annie Get Your Gun and I think Nathan Lane did for The Producers.
Which nominees would it be most interesting to see accept in costume? Bertie Carvel? Billy Porter? Andrea Martin? Other?

It's between Bertie and Billy.

I've always wondered if any of them wore a wig for their red carpet hair. Of course, when I was a kid I didn't understand that they were wearing wings in shows, especially when the wig was similar to their real hair, so I was always wowed by how quickly and drastically they could change their style!
I could be wrong about this, but I have a vague memory of Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner standing in the wings in costume when their category was announced. Obviously they didn't win, though.
And for this year I would definitely say Bertie or Billy, but I would also throw Laura Osnes into the mix if they have her in the ball gown for the performance. That thing is HUGE!
I want to see Patina Miller accept it whilst wearing her Dominatrix get up and with the whip... That would be quite a sight to see!
I have often wondered about the Wicked performance. Idina Menzel went from red carpet to full green make up and back again in the span of what about two hours. Was there a shower involved? Backstage sponge bath? These are the things that keep me awake at night.
I just assume they hire people who know what they're doing. And sleep just fine.
They only had to greenify (their word, not mine) her face and hands since the costume covers her all up. Wicked performed early enough in the night for her to wash her face before her category.
