Don't we say on 11 out of 10 of these threads that its Gypsy?
I gotta say I LOVE the overture/entr'acte of Superman. But I would love to see someone do a ice skating routine to the Dirty Rotten Scoundrels overture.
EDIT; But who can forget Mack and Mabel?!?! Great overture.
I have several names, one is Julian2. I am also The Opps Girl. But cross me, and I become Bitch Dooku!
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels all the way! It's the overture to my life.

You must remember all the same that at the crux of every game is knowing when it's time to leave the table... And it's important to be artful in your exit. No turning back, you must accept the con is done... It was a ball, it was a blast. And it's a shame it couldn't last. But every chapter has to end, you must agree. ~Dirty Rotten Scoundrels~
There's a special kind of people known as show people. We live in a world full of dreams. Sometimes we're not too certain what's false and what's real. But we're seldom in doubt about what we feel. ~Curtains~
It is a far, far better thing I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest I go to, than I have ever known. ~A Tale of Two Cities ~
Merrily We Roll Along is spectacular. Nine's overture (which is sung by the ladies of the show, not played by musicians) is a stunning example of great choral work. Candide's is exiting and quite wonderful. I like Promises, Promises. However, Gypsy has the absolutle best overture ever. A classic!
Cats Phantom of the Opera Man of La Mancha Mamma Mia Annie Me and My Girl My Fair Lady Bye Bye Birdie
In my opinion, the purpose of an overture is to get the audience ready for and excited about the show they're about to see. Even though there are shows on my list that I don't care for, the overtures for all these shows stir something inside of me and get me in the mood to see the show (Although I doubt that you'd ever get me to sit through Annie again.)
Gypsy Candide The Light in Piazza (though the CD recording is the extended version)

Rose: "Of Course I know, I Watch Fox News"

Broadway Schedule
December 5th- Hamilton, On Your Feet
December 19th- Noises Off, Edith Piaf Concert at Town Hall
I agree about The Light And the Piazza. And it's so freaking perfect how the voices blend into it and translate straight into the play. It's really otherworldly.
