A Little Night Music? No. It's turn-of-the-20th-century Sweden.
Fiddler on the Roof? No. At best, it's a "prequel" to a few characters' lives who begin migration to America at the end of the show. But none of it takes place in America. It's not "about America," the American experience, or Americans at all. It's all prior to that.
About America:
1776
Ragtime
American historical themes or events incorporated:
Annie
Assassins
South Pacific
Slice-of-life or idealized America:
The Music Man
Oklahoma!
Hair
Grease
Caroline, or Change
West Side Story
I didn't put everything down. Just ones that IMO qualified as the "best."
Well, then, any music depicting the lives of American characters could be called "American."
For Besty and qolbinau.
RE: Fiddler and Night Music
If you have to give me the definition of sarcasm, then you didn't do it very well.
