I agree with Jemjem and Best12, the movie of Cat works for me far better than many stage productions in spite of the softpeddling of the backstory. I agree that if all we had was the movie the underlying facts of that conflict, though subtly and subtextually suggested, would still be sufficiently evident, with the murkiness not a detraction. But even if I'm wrong on that, the film still powerfully brings forth the emotional battleground of givng up on life or going on in the face of shame and mendacity. The cast is heartbreakingly committed to the truth of a story in which the script may pull some punches but they pull none.
