re: Best Rhyme Ever

Isn't it warm?
Isn't it rosy?
Side by side by side.

Ports in a storm,
Comfy and cozy,
Side by side by side.

Everything shines,
How sweet!
Side by side...
...by side.
Parallel lines
Who meet.

Everyone winks,
Nobody's nosy,
Side by side by side.

You bring the drinks
And I'll bring the posy--

Side by side...
...by side.
One is lonely and two is boring,
Think what you can keep ignoring
Side by side by side.

(Never a bother!
Seven times a godfather!)

Year after year,
Older and older...

Sharing a tear,
Lending a shoulder.

Permanent sun,
No rain.
We're so crazy, he's so sane.
Friendship forbids
Anything bitter.

Being the kids
As well as the sitter--

One's impossible, two is dreary,
Three is company, safe and cheery.

-side by side by side company
oh sondheim, rhyming genius

re: Best Rhyme Ever

I'm having my daily Sondheim love fest.
'Can That Boy Foxtrot', cut from Follies is rich with beautiful rhymes!
"an imitation Hitler and with littler charm"
"As we all should probably have learned by now, to be a Stephen Sondheim fan is to have one's heart broken at regular intervals" - Frank Rich

Dearest, how can this be so? You were dead, you know. - Candide

Oh my god, this show has everything! Half naked guys and girl on girl action! - [title of show]

(My avatar? Why, yes! That is Laura Benanti making out with a chick!)

re: Best Rhyme Ever

Not written for Broadway, but on Broadway. It always makes me smile:

Bright young women
Sick of swimming
Ready to stand...

(From "The Little Mermaid." Certainly not a great show, not even a good show, but some clever lyrics.)

I agree with LePetiteFromage (see page before this one). That's (IMO) the best one. For those of you who are too lazy to click the last page, it was

"Don't be offended by my frank analysis
Think of it as personality dialysis"

MOST CLEVER SCHWARTZ LINE EVER!

re: Best Rhyme Ever

how many Wicked fangirls know what dialysis is though?

I'm a fan of "It's hot and it's monotonous / These helmets weigh a lot on us."

I also love "Lucy wants to be Jessie
And Jessie Lucy.
You see, Jessie is racy," but boy did I feel like I was a little slow on the uptake when I saw Follies at Encores. I can totally understand how an actress would mess the lyrics to this up.

and since I was just reading that someone posted lyrics from "The Begat," I remembered how great that whole song was...

"The Lats and Lithuanians, begat.
Scranton, Pennsylvanians, begat .
Strict vegetarians, begat.
Honorary Aryans begat
Startin' from Genesis, they begat
Heroes and nemesis, begat
Fat Phila-busterers, begat.
Income tax adjusterers begat
Twas naturaler and naturaler to begat
And sometimes a bachelor,
HE BEGAT??
It didn't matter which-a-ways they begat,
Sons of a bitch a-ways, begat."

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad
