My hope is with Spring Awakening, having not heard any of the scores.

I haven't heard any of the scores (with the expection of a few clips of Grey Gardens and the music in the Pirate Queen video), so I'm making a wild guess:

Grey Gardens
Spring Awakening
Curtains
The Pirate Queen

I would like to see any of the first three win. I personally wouldn't like to see Pirate Queen win. I'm not a big fan of Boublil and Schönberg, and what I've heard of the music (from the website video, which isn't that much, but still) I don't particually like.

There's a lot I am not certain of...

:: Having heard the score of Legally Blonde, I should think it has the biggest chance of winning. It's a very smart score.

I hope you're right! I love the Blonde score to bits, but as I haven't heard anything else yet, I can't really judge. But... yeah. I hope you're right. :)

I'm all for K&E. And it's true what's been said, it's very doubtful we'll ever see a K&E oevre on broadway again (unless of course "The Visit" gets done finally). And they've never ever disappointed me with any of their scores.

where have people heard the LEGALLY BLONDE score? that is pretty cool
but yeah, i actually heard a couple of clips of GREY GARDENS, and, i dont want to judge the entire score on a few clips, but i think the score is beautiful, and seems very Tony-worthy
ill find out in December though :)

"GREY GARDENS is the ONLY score with any musical value and merit whatsoever. The rest are strictly Amateur Night in Altoona."

LOL

*Oh dahling, I wouldn't be caught dead at one of those popular musical comedy entertainments. They're so common. Don't you know that if you are to attend a Broadway show this season, you should only be seen at Grey Gardens? Yes, I know Curtains is by Kander and Ebb, but until it is approved by our kind for attendance, we must assume it is rubbish. No, I don't need to hear a score or see a show in order to pass judgement, dahling, why on earth would you ask such a thing? TKTS??? Surely, you aren't serious?*

You wouldn't be a sock puppet of Music Man, by any chance, would you? He was an elitist as well. If Amateur Night in Altoona regularly features works the likes of Boublil and Schoenberg or Kander and Ebb, then I night to start visiting Altoona. But you go ahead and convince yourself you're above all that. It's funny. And if it makes you feel better, then good for you! Everyone needs a little boost now and then.

I listened to the Grey Gardens score and it is ok. I will reserve judgement until I see the show because it might work better on stage. I was not overwhelmed.

My problem with the Grey Gardens score are the pastiche songs in act 1, which I found downright embarrasing, actually. When we hit the 2nd act, and get to the part of the show we actually care about, the score improves by quite a lot. It'll be interesting to see what changes have gone in since the off-Broadway production, but since they've released a CD of it already, I assume that the creative forces feel the score is a done deal.

Not true - apparantly, they re-did Act One. They cut songs, and added new ones.

If THE DROWSY CHAPERONE can win best score, at this point, ANYTHING can.

Sorry, to disappoint you, sweetums, but, not only do I have the lacklustre score to CURTAINS sitting on my piano as I write, but some of the material (like A TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOW) has been available in print since 2004. Perhaps if you did YOUR homework before opening your mouth, you wouldn't look so foolish with your foot in it.
Love you!

i agree with munk's comment- if DROWSY can win best score, almost anything can now! DROWSY had a few good songs, but i think something like WEDDING SINGER or COLOR PURPLE should have won this year...but anyways, enough of last year's dissappointments...

CURTAINS score is just plan dull.

GREY GARDENS is brilliant. To take that documentary and turn into a musical was -to me - impossible, but they did it and with solid and sometimes dazzling results.

GREY GARDENS also has a indirect message of what happens to do those who stray from the RIGHT path. They go crazy and live in filth. A very moral lesson.

Yup. Stray from the path and live in filth. That's the message of the show. You're so smart.

AmericanRight is so transparent, I think it's time to stop paying attention to his over-the-top-obviously-designed-to-get-attention messages.
Having said that, I believe the score of Curtains is one of its weaknesses unfortunately. When I saw it I had the feeling that the numbers stood out more because of the brilliant top-of-the-notch cast than the score itself. I believe Grey Gardens is the more likely winner with Spring Awakening and Curtains having a smaller chance.

I am intrigued by the SPRING AWAKENING score...I can't wait to hear it. I love Duncan Shiek.

I think the score of Spring Awakening is exciting but I like Grey Gardens much, much more (and I just love some of the songs). It's a quality show. The sort of thing that sneaks into your heart.
