First year that I am in New York for Broadway on Broadway - what is the best time to arrive without camping out?

It's gonna be my first time there during Broadway on Broadway also and I have no clue but I would say early morning. My bus only arrives at 11am though so my own advice isn't gonna work with myself...LOL.

My Bus arrives at 8:00 AM, as much as excited I am, i am weary about the weather. But I don't to jinx it either way.
But to those who have been before, Is it gonna be like a waiting around thing for a decent view of the event, like if I want a certain area to view it very up close should I wait a certain number of hours for that spot?

Do you want to be in the front section and be able to see the stage? 6 or 7.
If your content with standing farther back and listening/watching the giant screens, anytime.

You can see hear from anywhere. They set up giant speaker and screens. They have pens set up back to about 47th Street (The stage is on 43rd). The front pen fills up really quick and so on and so on. Some people would rather stand farther back and be right up front in the pen against the barricade rather than the back of a pen closer to the stage. But like I said if you want a really good spot where you can see the stage be prepared to get their early. If watching on the screens is ok with you, then you can walk up at any time up to and including when it starts. One year they had Jay Johnson host a preshow to make the waiting time go quicker, I would have preferred waiting in silence. They also do sound checks before it starts it. So you can hear (or half hear in most cases) some performances before it begins.
