Worst: Miss Siagon, Mamma Mia, Avenue Q, 42nd Street, Dracula, Good Vibrations, Footloose, Good Vibrations

I've probably seen Broadway: The American Musical waaay too many times and it's rubbed off on me but it did seem that all of Cameron Mackintosh's shows did have a different but definitely memorable logo. Just the simple logo and it served it well.

WORST:
revival Into The Woods, Grease, Mamma Mia

wickedrentq: I'm pretty sure that the posters for all of Cameron Mackintosh's shows were made by Dewynters, a British press agency. They certainly do good work. :)

West Side Story- well it's from the tour a while back... the girl's leg is kind of straddling the guy and his arms is going up her skirt... it's VERY HOT!

WORST:

Les Mis- i hate the girl
Wicked- it's just odd to me
Footloose- yuck
Good Vibrations- someone said it before... it does look like a gay porn ad

It's always annoyed me how the mask on the phantom logo's different to the mask in the actual show, but it's still a good logo.

Miss Saigon's very clever, even if it is a hideous musical

And i hate the Les Mis logo, as much as i worship the show.

I love THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA's logo.

I think the mask is different because if the logo was just the half-mask, like the actual one, people would be like, "What the hell IS that??"

I loved "Cats" and although I'm not a big fan of the show, I also love "Wicked" My all time favorite though is the Follies revival.

My least favorite is "Little Women". Absolutely hideous.

i agree that the beauty and the beast logo was great before the purple. Its awkward now.

I liked Working's logo it relates to the show.

POTO--simple and perfect
Spamalot--zany and hillarious
Hairspray--captures the feeling perfectly
Oliver! (the new Mendes one)--Beautiful combo of "Oliver!" with Fagin's profile. Great color scheme too.
Lypsinka--As I Lay Lip-Synching--I know it's off broadway, but its got to be my favorite playbill

Worst:
Assasins--Powerpoint crap that looks just like the "Swingers" poster
Taboo--too much going on (and besides, didnt they have about 5 logos in all?)
The Producers (with Stalden and Stephenson)--looked like a bad high school photo shoot
Little WOmen--Relay for Life!...um...i mean, a musical!
Dracula--Nice image ruined with more Powerpoint text
Brooklyn--Like the Movin' Out logo had a deformed, less attractive child

The Oliver logo? You've got to be joking.

First of all, as the show is called Oliver! and not Fagin!, why is it a caricature of Fagin in the first place? Secondly, a humongous, giant L for Fagin's nose is something that seems more suitable for Der Stürmer than for a Broadway musical logo. How the Anti Defamation League didn't chase down Mackintosh and Dewynters is a mystery to me.

I forgot to mention that I really like "The Will Rogers Follies" logo as well as the "Mary Poppins" logo but I'm not certain if that one counts.

Sure the show is called Oliver! But every professional casting of the show has centered around Fagin as the star. And as for analzing the name down to a giant "L", i think youre looking into this far too deeply. I doubt any derrogitory intentions were considered when creating the design. If anyone defamed Fagin or Jews it was Charles Dickens in his crafting of the character. Read the novel, you'll see.

I have to agree with Munk, I do NOT like Wicked's logo AT ALL and some of their earlier tries were a lot better.
It just for some truly anal reason bothers me that they would put the Glinda character on the poster in an outfit unlike anything she wears in the actual show.
And really, for logos, simplicity really is the key because you need something that will not only be on posters, but also t-shirts, hats, magnets, coffee mugs etc. You'll notice that the Wicked logo is only on a few of these items whereas they simply used the title on others.
The Blockbuster musicals of Macintosh really had the best logos. They took one symbol from the show that they knew the audience would remember (The Phantom's mask, The helicopter that took Chris away, The cats eyes) and put it on everything in a unique style.

Yes, I've read the novel, which is even worse. Fagin is a wildly anti-Semitic creation in the book, plus there is the suggestion in the novel that he's also a pedophile, to add to his virtues. One of the musical's assets is that it softened Fagin to make him rather irascible and lovable. But that hook-nosed image used for the Macintosh revival is straight out of Nazi propaganda. It's completely abhorrent. Nor do I approve of your attitude that Dickens created a monster of a character, so a grotesque, anti-Semitic logo is OK.
