Hands down, Chicago. I haven't seen it recently and I've heard some disparaging things about the current state of the production, but as a piece of work, in and of itself, absolutely Chicago. It was in 1975 and continues to be so 35 years later.

Mostly revivals (Chicago, West Side, Nght Music...South Pacific is paced well for R&H, but not as well as King and I and is still a bit of a chore to sit through), but I'll give kudos to Next to Normal too. It's a very good show.

I did not find Billy Elliot to be very well written. It basically ignored going into much detail about the miner sub-plot. I have not seen A Little Night Music, South Pacific, or a professional production of West Side Story. I plan to see the last two soon.
