Of these 3 songs which one was Sutton the best in? Show Off, Gimme Gimme or Astonishing? Im making a playlist on my ipod but only want to feature her once.
It's YOUR iPod, for goodness sakes! Why, will the iPod police come after you if she's *GASP* on there more than once?
Lizzie, why do you have to be rude? If you think it's stupid then don't respond.
I'd recommend Show Off. My favorite.
Oh I have a weak spot for her "Astonishing" I love it!
I'd say Astonishing, but if you have the whole drowsy album i'd choose the bride's lament.
Oh my god. Her vocals on that song are killer.
Lizze if you must know im making this to burn for my grandma. She is not very aware of many broadway performances so im making a top 20 female performances and male performances cd. And i only want each actress on their once. I am really stuggling between astonishing which I love and her tony winning performance in millie.
"Gimme Gimme" always blows me out of the water. I'm a sucker for "Forget About The Boy" as well.

You're giving your grandma the iPod?
Burning a CD and putting songs on an iPod are two different things...
Gimme Gimme .... is one of my favorites. I have a weak spot for it.... i was so young when that show came out .... its a sentimental fav.
PS i had dinner with ms foster this evening.... and i know some of you have been curious but she is doing well. :)
Probably it's because it is the best material she has worked with but "Show Off" is probably her best performance of the three. Of course she hits "Gimme, Gimme" out of the park, but the song is not nearly as strong as "Show Off" which is incredibly witty and she handles it like a pro (and she has proved to be the ultimate performer of the song with her two replacements getting lukewarm reception).
Don't go for "Astonishing," she was terribly misdirected and the song can't compare to Jeanine Tesori's fun tunes in MILLIE or the incredibly witty lyrics of "Show Off."
"Show Off" is a wonderful comedic number, but for sheer tour de force belting, "Gimme, Gimme" rates as one of the most electric instants in musical theatre. Many of us will always remember that moment, when we realized we were in the presence, not of a talented young performer but a true Broadway star. It was, for me, like witnessing a nova, up close and personal - but without all the radiation and death, y'know?

Ever heard her "Someone Else's Story" or "On My Own"? They are both fantastic as well. You could probably find them somewhere.

I would pick the Bride's Lament. Her voice on that song is absolutely UNBELIEVABLE.
I've isolated audio from online videos of her singing and put the songs on my iPod. Yay.

Astonishing is best vocally, I think, but I also love love Gimme Gimme. And yes, Forget About the Boy is great too

Either Gimme Gimme or Astonishing, just because I can't listen to Show Off without dying to listen to the rest of the show.

Well you also have to think of the context. If it's for someone who isn't familiar with musical theater, then you shouldn't pick something like Bride's Lament because you really ought to know Drowsy's plot first. Otherwise it's a bizarre and wacky song that isn't any fun to listen to.
What I love about "Forget About The Boy" is the tap dance break. So much fun! That show was fantastic.
I loved how in order to get the elevator to work, they had to tap dance.
Astonishing, no doubt.
I would put her version of "On My Way" from Violet on there. By far the best Sutton song vocally. That is if you can find it.
Her performance of "If I Don't Have You" from when she played Sandy in GREASE was pretty amazing.
I'll ditto what allofmylife said. Her rendition of "Gimme, Gimme" is electrifying on disc, but heart-stopping in the theatre.
Gimme Gimme. Pure unadulterated Sutton before she was a star. I still think it's her best character to date.
