Hi! My daughter and I want to see several shows in July, and I'd love to know the best seats to see the shows in order to book them now. Most of the shows have pretty good seating available in center orchestra as well as dress circle. We want to make sure to be able to see over heads :) .
The shows are: Wicked, Beetlejuice, Hadestown, Phantom of the Opera, and Harry Potter. Also for Harry Potter is paying up for the lounge worth it during the summer shows?
Thank you!
I actually think that the front center mezzanine is the best view for Hadestown. The mezz feels super close to the stage, and it gives you a really great view of some of the staging as characters descend to the underworld.
That being said, there's not really a bad seat in the Walter Kerr.

I've sat in the front mezz for Hadestown, and the last row of the mezz for Hadestown, and the view is superb either way. You really can't go wrong in that theater.
For Phantom, I recommend sitting either under the chandelier in center orchestra, or in the front of the mezzanine for the best experience.
Harry Potter, front of the dress circle would give an excellent view point.
For Phantom, I highly recommend that you go with orchestra center, somewhere between rows BB and K. As might be expected, most of this section is designated as "Premium Seating", so these seats can be pricey. The mezzanine overhang starts around row J, so if you go much further back than that you will miss half of the chandelier ascent/descent and all of the Phantom's appearances on the catwalk above the proscenium.
I've never had a good experience from the front or rear mezzanine at this theatre. It's a relatively large house and the upstairs seats feel very removed to me, as if I'm watching the show from outside, through a window. By contrast, the front orchestra feels incredibly immersive, as if you are part of the action rather than simply a spectator. If you cannot get seats in the center of a row and must choose to be more on the house left or house right, I recommend house left, if only for the blocking during "Stranger Than You Dreamt It".

For Hadestown I've sat pretty much everywhere except the balcony. I've seen the show from every section of the orch, mezz, and the boxes. My favorite spots were center orch row f and right mezz row c. I'm in favor of house left for a. the women's bathroom, b. a quick exit from the theatre, and c. the moment at the end of act 2.
I would not suggest front row mezz. I sat there twice and hated it. Having been on the Kerr's stage, the mezz is closer than you realize to the actors on stage- they can see everything you do in front row mezz.
