Re: Next for the Majestic

Phantom4ever said: "While it is heartwarming to hear that the 1988 set is still in storage AND still in New York City, CamMack will never let that original set see the light of day again, especially now that so much advertising and image creating has been done to convince everyone that the new US tour and the new London production are the Prince/Bjornson original."I've never wanted to disagree so much, but I fear you are correct. I've come to truly despise Cameron Mackintosh. He's even sellin...

SisterGeorge said: "I haven't had any interest in Stranger Things -- the series or the show-- but I'll be in town next Sunday evening and I've seen everything else that has a Sun eve performance, and it is a Stephen Daldry show, after all. Can anyone comment on how it's doing with the new cast?"My husband and I have seen it four times, and are considering going back once more before it closes. Our last performance was with the new cast, and we were delighted by how well the new leads have tak...

Rumor: CATS: THE JELLICLE BALL to close in August?

Jul 15, 2026 — 11:38:39 AM

Omari Oricci Wiles on FacebookTo everyone who has laughed, cried, danced, and found a piece of themselves at Cats: The Jellicle Ball, This letter comes from a place of deep love.Love for theater. Love for ballroom. Love for Black and Brown artistry. Love for queer brilliance. Love for every performer, musician, designer, stagehand, dresser, usher, producer, and dreamer who made this production possible.First, thank you.Thank you for creating something that so many of us never imagined we woul...

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 7/13/26

Jul 15, 2026 — 7:59:12 AM

Matt Rogers said: "Most people find CATS ridiculous? It only ran for 18 years on Broadway and has been produced around the world ever since. I guess you speak only for yourself and not “most people”."Thank you for saying this. I've been thinking the same thing for quite some time now, but I no longer have the energy to respond to the sweeping pronouncements of a large number of people on this board. They've turned me from a frequent poster to a virtual lurker.

The State of Broadway

Jul 15, 2026 — 7:49:09 AM

BentleyB said: "The cost of coming to the city is crazy. We would come 4 to 5 times per year for the past 20 years. This past year we have not come because hotels, flights, restaurants, and tickets are through the roof."This has been a very real factor for us as well. Going back about five or six years, my husband and I wouldn't hesitate to fly to NY for 3-4 nights for anything that interested us, and we did this 3-5 times per year. Now, the cost of a hotel, airfare, and dining are ridiculous...

New Movie of Phantom

And someone who can actually sing the role.

Gay Cruise, starring Patti LuPone, Denied Entry into Turkey

Jul 3, 2026 — 4:46:54 PM

My husband and I went on an Atlantis cruise several years back, before there was a Virgin cruise line, when they were still contracting Celebrity ships. The itinerary included a stop at Istanbul, which didn't appeal much to me, but Atlantis assured us it was safe. There was a welcome station done up in the typical rainbow balloons and bunting, but it quickly became apparent that the objective was to get passengers into rug and lamp stores. We had an unpleasant and vaguely threatening encounte...

Jordan Donica stars in London's Phantom of the Opera starting 8 Sept

Jun 30, 2026 — 7:48:37 AM

I was so disappointed by Cameron Mackintosh's allegedly "Better than ever!" cheapening of the London production that I didn't expect to ever see it again, but Jordan Donica's casting in the lead might motivate me. IMHO, his performance in Sunset Blvd rivaled that of Nicole Scherzinger, and the thought of him singing "Let your soul take you where you long to BE!" is very enticing. Ms. Boggess as Carlotta certainly adds some icing to the cake.

François Arnaud to star in a Broadway play?

Jun 16, 2026 — 10:09:06 AM

I saw an unconfirmed social media post this morning indicating that François Arnaud has signed on for a Broadway play. Has anyone heard anything more about this, particularly what play it might be?

The Buyer Got Smarter Than the Box Office

Jun 9, 2026 — 1:08:58 PM

I agree completely with the writer's assessment that audiences are now playing the waiting game regarding tickets for anything but a sure-fire sellout. Historically, I've rarely bought tickets at the last minute (unless I was simply filling a slot and not particularly concerned about the show); for anything I'd made up my mind to see, I always bought well in advance. Not anymore. For our last trip in May, I only bought three out of eight shows in advance because I knew the seat selection was ...

Rank the 2026 Tony Performances

Jun 8, 2026 — 3:03:16 PM

Going completely against the grain, I thought Pink was just awful from start to finish; I can't recall another less appealing/engaging Tonys host.As for the Best Musical performances, if I were planning a Broadway trip now, none of them would've motivated me to buy a ticket. I had high hopes for Cats: The Jellicle Ball, but they chose the wrong moments, it looked chaotic, and the volume of their music was too low in comparison to the vocals (the opposite of all the other performances).Overall...
