I haven't seen her, but I do know Beth was on vacation for a little while so someone had to go on for her.
An understudy has definitely gone on because I seem to recall a review being posted by a fan on this board who saw the show and Beth was out. You might be able to find something by going through the search feature. Updated On: 10/18/06 at 04:12 PM

Linda Griffin went on during that vacation back in August.
I saw her. She was okay, but I wish I'd seen Beth.
I believe Liz (aka Dirty Rotten Scoundrel) has seen both of Beth's understudies. Hopefully she'll be along to give her opinion on Fernandez (I know she said one was ten times better than the other, but I don't remember which.)
I've seen Beth Leavel, Linda Griffin, and Stacia Fernandez. Linda Griffin was just okay. She couldn't hold a lot of the notes in "As We Stumble Along" and her voice was a bit rough. Stacia Fernandez was FANTASTIC. She has a wonderful voice and she was absolutely hysterical. I really enjoyed her performance.
I always wonder how understudies get cast. It's either hit or miss. I saw Anne Nathan go on for Harriet Harris in "Thoroughly Modern Millie" and it was just painful to watch. I'm hoping to see Chaperone again over the Thanksgiving holiday.

thats because Anne wasnt an actual understudy for mrs. meers.. she was an "emergency" (unlisted) understudy in the cast that muzzy and meers were out at the same time... b/c terry burrell had to go on as muzzy b/c she was the only cover for muzzy so anne goes on as meers... when liz mccartney took over for anne... they listed her as a meers and muzzy cover.. :) im a fANATIC about millie... lol thanks!!!
Ive seen Linda Griffin in August. She was horrible.
Thanks, Broadwayman, that explains everything.

ok... this might seem really creepy but was it like march 15, 2004 lol... did u also have an understudy for millie... b/c i was sitting by the stage door that day... and this whole "thing" was going on...with anne as meers...
No, Sutton was in that night, but I believe I saw it in March 2004. It was a Friday night. If I had a Millie understudy that night, I would have lost it!!

ooo so anne must have gone on a few times in march 2004 lol!
Apparently so. Was Sheryl Lee Ralph still with the show at that time?
Saw Stacia with DirtyRottenScoundrel and she was really good. I was pretty dissapointed to hear Beth was out, but Stacia was (judging by the OBCR) an equal

I saw Stacia in Drowsy when I saw it.
She was very good.

I saw Stacia Fernandez during Beth's vacation, and while she was very able vocally, she missed a lot of the laughs Ms. Leavel got in the role (particularly during the sardonic asides).
Her over-the-top-ness seemed more self-conscious than Beth's did, but I'll give her credit for trying in that the role walks a very fine line, meta-theatrically. I can't believe I just typed the word "meta-theatrically" into a message board posting. My apologies!
I don't think Sheryl was with the show in March 2004. I saw Millie in April 2003 and I found out it was her last day. I don't recall anything special going on onstage, but I do remember hearing louder cheers from the row behind me, and I think they were family members.
