Why didn't anyone about 15 years ago write a Broadway musical for Bette Midler?

I can't imagine she would want to do one. I remember in a interview once she said that her run on broadway in Fiddler was extremely difficult. Not only the doing the same show 8 times a week but her sister was killed in a freak accident in NYC while there to see her in the show. I can't remeber the details. It seems she is happy making records, movies, and touring in concerts. Seeing her concert in January. Can't wait.

theatermafia: I'm seeing her in January, too. At the Gund in Cleveland.
Why would she want to? Fifteen years ago she was making millions doing movies the money should would have made on Broadway would seem like nothing at that time. A musical was written for her in the 1970's titled 'Rachel Lilly Rosenbloom (and don't you ever forget it)'. She turned it down and Ellen Greene did it, it bombed.
I'm seeing her concert in January too!
At Madison Sqaure Garden.
I'm still plotting how to sneak my camera in.

She is coming to Cleveland soon. "Kiss My Brass" tour. She puts on such a great show. The reason she does not like to be on Broadway is because she also puts on a different show. She likes to be different.
