I had the extreme pleasure of seeing belter extraordinaire Betty Buckley perform her smashing new show, "For the Love of Broadway."
This woman knows her Broadway songbook, and she has chosen songs to show off every facet of vocal and acting range. From classics like Come To Me, Bend To Me and This Nearly Was Mine, to newer stuff like It's a Fine, Fine Line, this woman can do no wrong.
There's just something about her voice that makes me get goosebumps all over! Her phrasing tonight was just spot on. She brought herself to tears several times, and you could really feel the audience in the palm of her hand.
I don't know how much longer this is running, but it was the perfect thing for a snowy evening. I urge everyone to see this gem at the top of her game.
I was there on the 16th and loved every minute of it. She had me in stitches with the song about all the belting...meadowlark, writing on the wall etc...but when she sang 'If You Go Away'...she tore my heart out and dropped it in the middle of Park Ave. I'm glad you enjoyed the evening.

She's been twittering about this; I got the impression it was a 2 or 3 week run. Shame I can't bend my sked to make it up there...
I was there for the early show on the 20th. It was an extraordinary experience. I agree completely that she captivated the audience. Her musicians were quite wonderful in their own right as well. Almost a week later, I can't get her "If You Go Away" out of my head - it was that moving. Also, Elaine Stritch was in the audience that evening. Ms. Buckley introduced her and called Ms. Stritch her "guardian angel". She said that at different points in her life, Elaine Stritch seemed to appear and give her just the right advice that she needed at the time. She also complemented Elaine Stritch's recent cabaret run "at the other cabaret place". The audience gave Ms. Stritch a standing ovation. She declined an invitation to come up on the stage but said that she had never heard Ms. Buckley sing or interpret songs better than this evening. It was a nice moment. If you can get to Feinstein's, don't miss this. I'd love to be able to see her again.
I wish I could afford Feinstein's!! Brava, Betty!
danceallnight- She told that story about Stritch last night, after which she flawlessly interpreted "I Never Know When To Say When."
Betty had tears streaming down her face during "If You Go Away." The audience seemed to collectively hold it's breath during the final phrases of this song.
It will be THRILLING to see her return to the stage at New World Stages next month. I'm so glad everyone seems to have enjoyed her cabaret as much as I did!
If you go away seemed SO personal...I wondered if she was going through all that as Betty, or was it a character. Just shows what a great actor she is as well.
