Beyonce was at Marshall Fields today pushing a new perfume by Lauren. I didn't get to go but I saw them lining up hours in advance.

Has anyone heard Beyonce's new track, the classic; "Wishing on a Star"?
If you have then I would perhaps be interested in your musical critique...:>)

Wait what about an Oscar winner? I hope you're not refering to Beyonce..I loved her with Destiny's Child but after reading that one article where she says she hoped to be (or knew she would be??) the first black woman to win a grammy, oscar, and a Tony I was a bit iffy with her..style shall we say? I'm sure you'd know the difference it's just since then I've actually heard her been refered to as "the next Halle Barry". It was a weird article..

No, she means Jamie Foxx
Am I cut out to spend my time this way?

Oh gotchya. Thanks I don't know much about the upcoming movie. For some reason I was never a fan of the original broadway show. Well then I just made much ado about nothing. My apologies.

Didn't they officially announce FANTASIA as Effie a couple of days ago?

I don't care what any Grammy or Oscar winner says. I just hope a deserving talent isn't robbed of this part because of that screaming, shrieking mess. If she was the so-called best person for this part, clearly their standards for the part were very low. They waited 20 years for this film to be made and they're considering Fantasia for Effie? Absolutely ridiculous.
I really believe that the producers told Jamie Foxx to shut his trap because the role hasn't been cast yet.
I just hope David Geffen puts a stop to this madness. And sticks it to Clive Davis as well.

If Fantasia can act it, I am thrilled and can not wait. I think she is a stunning singer.

I say Extra too, Beyonce looked all excited talking about it. I hope Fantasia isn't robbed of this role because of a few complaints by people who have not seen any of the audition tapes and therefore are not really qualified to say who is the most deserving. I'm confident that the most deserving will land the role, no matter who that may be. If Fantasia lands it, it is because she deserved it as they surely aren't just handing it to her on a silver plate.

It's amazing how the Fantasia stans jump out of the woodworks the minute someone says they disapprove of her being in this movie.
As far as her deserving it, please! Save it. Unknowns don't have Clive Davis' henchmen campaigning for them to get the part.

Some people like Fantasia, some don't. To each their own. I happen to like her.
I do have to wonder, though... would it really be worth it to cast Fantasia? The girl has admitted she is highly illiterate.
If this is as large of a problem as I would think it to be... wouldn't it be logical to find someone more qualified?

Oh god -- here we go again. There are so many absurd posts on this -- but Fantasia can read now. And last time I looked at the Dreamgirls script there isn't a scene in which she is reading aloud from a book. And even if she was, its called MEMORIZING a scene. Jesus H. Christ...
Bill Condon is a fantastic director. He will probably make a terrific production of DREAMGIRLS. If he casts Fantasia, it will be because she's more then proven her ability to be extraordinary in the role.

I know I have posted that I would have liked a heavier "Effie", But all this talk about Fantasia got me seriously thinking of her in this project and IMHO, I believe she would be fabulous if selected. She certainly has the soul & the pipes for it, and she comes across as VERY genuine. I noted someone saying she was illiterate and that stops no one, Cher has an AWFUL dyslexia and it hasn't stopped her, She has even said she has trouble dialing long distance and reading euro clocks & such, but there are many ways to memorize lines - I like to do it the easy way and use the tape recorder trick myself... why linger on when it is soooo easy? You Go Fantasia, Break a Leg!! (She could win an Oscar too - This IS the land of Dreams, well, at least it used to be before January of 2000 - But it can be the land of DREAMGIRLS still!)

No need to get snappy. What I had written wasn't meant to be insulting towards her. My life doesn't revolve around celebrity news... much less their abilities (or lack thereof) to read. So excuse me if I was wrong in what I said earlier.
As I stated earlier, I like the girl.
All I know is that she can not just sing... she can sang.

God, if she doesn't get cast after all the buildup I'll crack up just from the reaction here.

Fantasia IS deserving of this role. She has the soul, the depth, the life experience and an incredibly stirring voice that this role requires. And lets not talk about the GIFT of honest song interpetation. She is a true master when it comes to this. and its just what Effie's songs demand. I think she will blow us all away.
