I'm auditioning for this show soon at a local regional theater and am wondering if there are any roles suitable for a Male in his mid 20's who usually plays more of the romantic type roles - is 6 foot 1 and sings tenor?
Help me out please.
Thanks in advance!

Big River is great. Or at least the Deaf West production was. I saw it 5 times. :)
Zimmy, why are you bothering to audition, then?

It's truly a great show. Not a rock 'n roll fluff musical by any means (is this why you don't like it? :-P) but a great, well-scored show. What's your vocal type?

I love this show! And again atleast Deaf West's production.
The main male roles are Huck, Jim, and Tom. The smaller parts do have solos as well, but it depends on what songs they are going to put in it b/c deaf west actually took out one song or scene...
have you listened to the CD? If you don't like it at all, then don't do it.

This is a great show...don't listen to what people say on here. You could probably eligible for the roles of Huck, Tom, or the Duke. If you don't get one of those parts, you'll definitely be one of the boys in Tom's gang.
Definitely audition for the role...it's a great experience!

Posted: 2/6/06 at 6:10pmOh yeah the Duke and King are good roles too. There are so many 'smaller' roles so that there can be a large cast and there are tons of opportunities.

Zimmy, since you are tall, I think you'll be great for Duke or King but neither role is "romantic" type
Very meany but you'd have a fun nevertheless.

I did this show last may. It was a regional production and people still talk about the show. We honestly had an amazing cast. As for roles. For the mid 20's depeding on how they cast. There are the boys, and Huck and Tom. And the Duke and dauphin. For our cast, our boys were from 14-24 and same with Tom and Huck. Duke and dauphin were older in the 30's. But its all depends on witch way they go with the casting. Good luck. Its a fun show.

I think you mean "dauphin," but AFAIK, they're the Duke and the King. At least in Deaf West's.

Posted: 2/6/06 at 7:11pmSorry. I fixed it. I didnt know that Deaf West's changed the name. I know in the script from the R&H co, its dauphin. Hm. Wonder why they do that.

I would have loved to see Deaf West's production; I had tickets to see it in Washington, DC but that fell through.
I believe that Tom and Huck are both tenors -- however, Huck is a much smaller role than you might think -- great comic role but not huge. (Really, a great role though). Usually, they cast these roles and the "boys" as young adult men, 18+. However, I can't make assumptions as to how your company will. Best of luck!

PS -- There's also a great comic bit part called the Young Fool (or something to that effect) and he sings "Arkansas" -- a great character-actor-role for a young man.

I love the Arkansas song! Totally random but it's fun, especially DW's version cause he signs ARK awkward-ly and it's cute.
I saw DW's version 3 times and I am still sad I didn't see it more than that. I wish they toured longer.
Tom's part is good, but it's definately not romantic, so hope you'll like it anyway.
