Just got back from the opening night of the Denver engagement of the Deaf West Theatre Production of "Big River - The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". A lot of the original Broadway cast are in the show. For those of you who have not seen the show, I really suggest you see it. The signing is beautiful. Like choreography with hands. The show is quite long and we left thinking that they could have shortened it just a bit. But luckily the wonderful actors, very clever set, great costumes, fun and beautiful songs and "that moment", keeps your attention. Melissa Van Der Schyff as Mary Jane and Gwen Stewart as Alice just blew us away. Great voices. David Aron Damane as Jim was very good also. And Tyrone Giordano was wonderful. For anyone in Denver or anyone planning to see the show in Denver, my suggestion is that you get Orchestra seating. One of my favorite places to sit in the Buell is within the firt 2 rows of the balcony. Unfortunately, we lost a lot of the dialouge up there. I of course let the staff know at intermission and it was a bit better for the second act. But we still missed some dialouge. All in all, a very enjoyable evening at the theatre.
