Not on the stage, but the film version of "The Producers" was lackluster in my opinion. I guess I'm so used to the original film that I couldn't handle seeing any other performers trying to do it.
Another for me would have to be "Sunset Blvd." I've not seen it, but the album is so dull. The music is great and I do enjoy it, but the performances are so wooden and without emotion of any sort. It sounded more like a read-through rather than a perfomance. Perhaps if i could've seen it live I would have felt differently, but the movie is still my favorite incarnation. (The recording, by the way, is the Lupone recording).

Posted: 9/11/06 at 4:33pmI'll toss DROWSY up here again. I wanted to like it so much, but just left thinking... "whatever that was". I still can't fathom the appeal. But nothing is for everyone. So to those of you who love it, I hope it enjoys lots of success.

Truly. I mean, a cast like that and a director like that, and we got a film like that. It's pretty sad when the best thing in the movie is Will Farrell's audition scene.

Not on stage, but I was somewhat dissapointed of the Rent movie. With all the hype, and then it was just a let down.
However, on stage, Dr. Dolittle. It had potential, to be very funny and sweet kids musical, but it was garbage.

Posted: 9/11/06 at 7:53pmLord of the Rings - I think the show's failure in Toronto (and I expect in London) is the biggest disappointment in theatrical history. Mind you, I was always one of the people who said "That is the stupidest idea for a musical". There was no artistic purpose for it. The only thing that show was for was $$$, no heart. I saw it in May and though I saw some great work by designers and an intense and undercredited cast, the show still had no true purpose. The fact that they condensed the story-telling is evidence enough to show just how quickly they wanted it done. If you're going to tell the story, tell the whole thing. And if it's going to be too long...DON'T DO IT!

Joel Grey was a big disappointment for me when I went to see Wicked after it first opened. I was so excited to see this Broadway legend and he was probably my least favorite performer out of the entire cast.
But I also think the part is pretty bad since he has some of the worst songs in the show. So maybe it wasn't entirely Joel Grey's fault, but I remember being disappointed nonetheless.

Lennon...I really wanted it to be something good with his music. Too much Oko influence also.
The Producers....didn't see original cast, which might have made a difference. I loved the original movie so much and laughed out loud, but the musical just came off too silly.
Little Women... boring songs, boring book.
Reckless...Mary Louise Parker was awful

I was fairly disappointed with Wicked. It has been one of my favorite books over the years and I've been waiting to see it brought to life. I hated how Glinda's part was manipulated to be somehow equal Elphaba. Don't they even bow at the same time? So lame. Clearly she is a supporting character. I also think the show lost part of its political stance and offered very little incite into how she became so wicked.
I did like the tie in with the film, but I still can’t dismiss continuity problems with the film’s fire-ball scene. There was no explanation for that and it’s certainly not in the book.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (London)
- try VERY hard to love it but it just turns to be a pantomime..
Frances Ruffelle as Roxie
- with the near perfection cast alongside her as contrast, I cudve done a better job as Roxie than her in ANY aspect!
Jerry Springer Act 2
- the whoel swearing thing and ridiculous stuff just went abit too far and felt boring....

the CHICAGO revival
I think the choreagraphy seems to simple. The stage is crammed. The performances on the OBC all sound so monotone and boring. The costumes are boring. The comedy is lost. The songs are not well prtrayed due to the awkward staging and lacluster choreagraphy.
I never thought a movie could be so much better than its Broadway counterpart.
