Not before it happened, but ever since I got to know Chess I wonder how it couldn't have been a hit.

Curtains
Bounce

Not because they were or are the worst shows on the planet (not by a long shot), but because my expectations were so high.

Too high.

After that, I will also add:

Titanic
Raggedy Ann

Edwin Drood (...the second time I saw it. The first time it was fantastic!)

My recent biggest disappointment would have to be "Spamalot". I'm a big Python fan and I was so looking forward to seeing this show, after hearing so much about it and it winning the Best Musical Tony. Wow, what a let down. One of the most boring afternoons I've spent in the theatre in a long time.

Doubt - after seeing Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?

Let me clarify... I enjoyed Doubt, but I had heard such AMAZING things about so I was expecting something more.

Wait Nick and Nora? That disappointed someone? I thought it did what it was meant to do? Someone actually expected more?

Wedding Singer is successful? They had to fire an actor and bring in a game show contestant.

I've seen every new musical on and off broadway this year (and many new regional productions), and Wedding Singer was by far the biggest dissapointment. What a waste.

I KNOW I'm going to get slaughtered for this, but I was dissapointed in The Drowsy Chaperone. *Dodges thown objects.* I just heard SO MANY good things about it from it's out-of-town tryout, like it was the second coming of Christ or something, and it was a letdown. The stranger thing is that there were so much was right about the show - The plot, the concept, the sets, the fact that I laughed my ass off at so many parts, etc. that it was so bizarre that I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as I thought I would have. There was just too much hype surrounding it, I guess.

Then again, I saw it during previews, so maybe things have changed since then...

Mr Roxy, do you mean shows that were personal disappointments for us, or shows that were expected to become blockbusters and then bombed at the box office?

The Wedding Singer is far from a success financially or artistically.

The revival of MAN OF LA MANCHA (That set! That staging! What were they thinking???).

URBAN COWBOY -- it could have been a hoot, and certainly the dancers were working their butts off, but what a complete and utter misfire.

NICK & NORA was the worst show I have EVER seen on Broadway and I have been going to the NYC Theatre since 1954's PETER PAN. I had been looking forward to the show since I love the THIN MAN movie mysteries.Director Arthur Laurents wasn't hard enough on book writer Arthur Laurents!
I was disappointed in DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRALS. I found it boring and tuneless, save for the ballad sung by Pryce in the second act.

While the recent revival of Follies was never expected to be a blockbuster, it was still a major disappointment for me. Also, I would agree with the comments about Spamalot and the recent revival of Man of LaMancha.

It's too bad "Nick and Nora" had such a weak book. I have the cast album, and many of the songs and performances are very good.
