Sorry for another cast recording but i got this message from the facebook group. It could happen.
Heres what it said from Chuck Leachmen:
Hi all,
I really appreciate your support for this effort and truly believe that we need a NYC Broadway Cast Recording of "Billy Elliot". I'm sure you do too. However, in order to accomplish this we NEED a lot more support.
Things have slowed down considerably in the last few weeks. We've only garnered about 50 member in the last 10 days. Please, PLEASE invite your friends, family and all to join this group. Let's try to pick up the pace and shoot for 1,000 members by the end of February.
Thanks again, SO MUCH, for your help in this effort.
Chuck

Why would they produce another one?
I'm actually curious.
The OLCR was good. Is there a need for an OBCR?

Posted: 2/18/09 at 8:02pmI think the olcr is great too, but the billy elliot cast wants their own recording and it will mean alot for them. It would be nice to have another recording that we do not have to share with london for the souviner stand and it can make money for the show.

meh.
not sure it's worth it in this economy.

Posted: 2/18/09 at 8:09pmSorry but none of the Broadway Billy's hold a candle to Liam Mower vocally. They are all talented, absolutely and beyond, but Liam was a real triple threat.

cglaid...i agree with who will be singing as billy for the obcr if they get one.
for shine, solidarty, and merry xmas maggie thatcher the broadway ballet girls can hold their one.
i feel too frank or david can do very well with michael on the obcr, and with the rest of the cast.
the show is doing very well with the economy so if they record one let them. i feel the show can recoup close to a year.

Posted: 2/18/09 at 9:31pmI don't belong to Facebook so won't be joining any group, but I would definitely buy a Billy Elliot OBCR. I like having a cast recording of the cast I saw perform a show I enjoyed, whether Broadway or West End. While I like the London cast recording, I know I'd enjoy being able to compare it to an OBCR.

Posted: 2/18/09 at 9:49pmPersonally, I just don't see the need. I understand that the cast might want one -- I'd want one too if I was in my first Broadway show, but this is a transfer of a production that already got a perfectly fine West End cast recording. The majority of shows that transfer these days either from the West End to Broadway or from Broadway to the West End don't get two separate cast recordings anymore, and you have to admit that it makes sense financially, and just move on.

I know Universal is bugging Daldry on a new Film for BE also. I think after the Tony's BE will be the shiz ,assuming Tony and Billy become one.
The Broadway cast certainly deserves their chance to "SHINE" but right now.... I would hold off a little bit. But we need to remember Haydn Gwynne said her Visa is up soon or something along those lines

Yea I'm Sorry, I'll start over
I read "Universal" is trying to insist on producing Billy Elliot as a movie again (old news) but I just think that sure Billy Elliot The Musical is covered in gold but i feel that it is too fragile to be franchised into a new recording, possible movie, and such... at least for now. This has nothing to do with the economy right now. My personal feelings are that people might overlook the gracefulness that is in the show.
It is superb piece with Amazing Talent and ability. With the Tony's right around the corner. Let's see how it pans out. I'm sure many of you think that it will continue to be successful regardless the outcome of the Tony's but too much of a good thing at one time is not always a good decison.
If you still don't understand, I am sorry.

Posted: 2/19/09 at 2:05amI absolutely love this show, but there's no need for a OBC recording. Nobody in the Broadway cast is upping the ante for anybody on the OLC recording.

Posted: 2/19/09 at 8:24amI'd enjoy a cast recording, especially if a few bonus tracks were included highlighting the other two 'omitted' Billy's and possibly Eltons new Christmas song that was on the most recent Carols for a Cure.

Posted: 2/19/09 at 11:30amI would actually like an OBCR. First, I would like to hear the cast that I saw, and second, there are several orchestration changes, and different songs/lyrics in the NYC production that in are not on the OLCR.

Posted: 2/19/09 at 12:33pmIt would be excellent if we had a OLCR of Hairspray, but seems this will not happen, so I share your frustration of not having a OBLR of Billy Elliot!

There's just no need for an OBCR of Billy.

I'm split when it comes to this...
1) Haydn is on the OLCR, which right there makes several songs the same.
2) Which Billy would they use? Liam has a fantastic voice and amazing pitch, so whoever they choose is going to have to match up to him/top him.
3) I would love to here Carole Shelley on the recording.
4) If they are going to do one they have to do it soon or it may only be a BCR and not a OBCR.

Posted: 2/20/09 at 3:35pmOY...we are in acronym hell. The OLCR singing wise was pretty good (Liam really developed a good voice) but sometimes it just lacked the emotion shown live. Also I question some of the choices made in rearranging the pieces for the recording, especially repeating at the end of Electricity (and unneeded backup there too). I just think it could use a redo...but it wont for financial reasons.
