With 'Shuffle Along' closing so soon, what are the chances of Billy heading back to Kinky Boots to either try to boost sagging ticket sales to extend the show's run OR to close out the show's run (much like fellow Tony winners Harvey and Marissa did at the end of Hairspray)?

He was in the show before for so long, so I doubt he'll be coming back.

i think he buried the role when he left in November. He says it in his curtain call speech.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Yeah. I also think he wants to pivot away from drag roles.
I have no idea of any personal or financial considerations, but given his accolades for S.A. and earlier presence, I'd expect that he's now on any number of short lists for shows in the queue.
Perhaps a big show at 54 Below and an Encores! role in the short term.
