Broadway stars STEPHANIE J. BLOCK and MIKE ELDRED will be joining JIM BRICKMAN in his upcoming concerts at BIRDLAND this Monday and Tuesday, March 20 and 21 at 7pm.
Stephanie J. Block just completed a year in the starring role of Elphaba in the National Tour of Wicked. She was also seen on Broadway playing Liza Minnelli opposite Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz. In April, she begins rehearsals to star in a new musical written by the composers of Les Miserables called The Pirate Queen, which is headed to Broadway next year.
Mike Eldred starred as Jean Valjean on Broadway in the recent "final cast" of Les Miserables. Recently, he has been on the road, touring with pianist Jim Brickman. He has performed in concert with many symphony orchestras including the Indianapolis Symphony, the Chicagoland Pops, the Cincinnati Pops, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, the Houston Symphony, the Illinois Philharmonic, Chicago's Grant Park Orchestra, and the Nashville Symphony.
Jim Brickman has already established a solid reputation as America’s most popular romantic piano artist with the enormous success of the popular song hits he has composed himself, like “Valentine,“ “The Gift,” “Love of My Life,” “Simple Things” and “Peace.“ But in his concerts, the charismatic piano sensation has added a magical new dimension to his repertoire with selections from The Disney Songbook, his latest CD from Walt Disney Records. This exciting collaboration between Jim Brickman and Disney not only created fresh interpretations of favorite songs from classic Disney animated films, but a brand new Jim Brickman hit song, “Beautiful,” inspired by one of the most-loved Walt Disney films, Cinderella. Brickman’s musical career has had many highlights since he first burst on the entertainment scene a decade ago, becoming a multi-million selling musical artist and making his mark on radio, stage, and television.

Posted: 3/18/06 at 1:58pmMy best guess is that she'll sing "Valentine". I don't see why she'd be singing NNL with Jim Brickman.

From what I heard, she sang Baby of Mine from Dumbo and Valentine. Hopefully someone who went will give details.
Anyone going today?

Stephanie was luminous as usual, giddy and effervescent over performing with Jim B. She has performed "Valentine" at her solo shows and even named her last Birdland gig after the song, so to perform it with its composer must have had her higher than a kite. And she gets to do it all again tonight!
Mike Eldred...sigh...it was funny that "Hear Me" was his first song with Jim last night...he has this rich, strong tenor that just raised the roof - they could probably HEAR YOU in Jersey, Mike!
He also performed one of the two originals from Jim's current Disney classics album, a song called "Beautiful." It was inspired by a suggestion from the Disney folks to Jim to write a song about the moment Cinderella and Prince Charming first see each other at the ball...but written from the PRINCE'S point of view.
Dual loyalties - I've known Mike for nearly a decade and being the "Boy From Oz DVD Petition" Diva, Stephanie is an absolute treasure to me.
Both were simply amazing...I can't wait for Mike's next album and solo tour...and Stephanie's Birdland shows this summer and The Pirate Queen.
Finally a big THANK YOU to Jim C., for putting this magnificent couple of nights of music together, and for ALL that you do for the Broadway community!

Posted: 3/21/06 at 2:59pmThanks for the review! I believe when a friend of mine checked they said you only need a reservation to sit at the table, but not to sit at the bar. But this is coming from a girl who doesn't let the words "sold out" scare her so you may want to check. That goes for anyone still interested in going.
