It appears that about half of the songs in the London version were replaced by inferior ones for Broadway. Londons "Like An Eagle" was replaced by "Bollywood" which is average

The same thing happened with Miss Saigon. Like Bombay, no Broadway cast was recorded & a number of songs from the ondon version were cut for Broadway

I have heard that they will be be recording a cast recording. They would be smart to release it... (plus I would buy it!)

Wll, there were so many book changes in the Broadway version, including the cutting of a major character, that it makes sense for new songs to be needed.

Which character did they cut? Was it Sweetie?

Maybe they think America is not yet ready for Eunuchs (sp?)...

...it's sad really that the *powers that be* think they have to change shows for American audiences, or so that the shows will sell..."Oh ye of little faith"....America, I hope, is not that sheltered.

I saw Bombay Dreams twice in London...and I love it...I have the original London cast CD, and "The Making Of" DVD...it was originally a beautiful show, and IMO, it did not need to be altered for America.

It's a good thing to learn about other cultures. Theatre is just one small way to do that, and *Americanizing* shows is not helping, IMO!

There is a curious paradox that no one can explain; Who understands the secret of the reaping of the grain, Who understands why spring is born out of winter's laboring pain, Or why we all must die a bit before we grow again. -from "The Fantasticks"

The main villian was cut. The guy who heads up whatever that organization was.

No offense to your liking the show in London, but I think the changes were necessary simply for the sake of improving the script. Not that they had to water down the cultural references, but i think the humor was pretty juvenile in London and most of that was cut. London audiences and American audiences often have very different view of what works in a musical.

Hey, Miss Saigon never made a Broadway cast recording, but the complete symphonic recording documented the changes...

I like it a lot better than the original... I just looked at Amazon, and they don't have it anymore. Only the highlights....
