You're right. It really doesn't.
I did standing room this past Sunday -- when it was a high of, what, 20 degrees? I got there at 8:15ish and there were already 6 or 7 people ahead of me getting 10 tickets.

Posted: 1/19/12 at 1:47pmjust to confirm...SRO tickets are sold starting an hour before curtain? and people will wait from like 8AM until an hour before curtain?

Posted: 1/20/12 at 7:43amThat's correct. You'll have a chance to do the lottery, but if you don't win, you'll be hanging out until 1 for the matinee and even longer if you don't make it in that group and have to shoot for the evening performance. I think I was in line the same Sunday LizzieCurry mentions above, a few spots ahead of her. We got there at 7:45 and were numbers 8 and 9 in line. Fortunately, everyone ahead of us was just getting 1 ticket each.

Posted: 1/20/12 at 8:20amYep -- if you're going to do it at all, it's much more practical to get up super early and do standing room for a matinee than evening.

Ok....so this could be an extreme faux pas I dont even know but I figured I would ask. Now I have no idea what the etiquette is in these SRO lines but if I understand it correctly 1 person can buy two tickets. If I am the very first person in line......and two people show up in line behind me that are each buying 1 ticket or are together. What is the harm in me paying them to buy my tickets? I am first in line so no matter what im getting tickets.....whats wrong with taking the initiative so I dont have to stand there all day. I can understand it being annoying if I was last in line and bribed someone in front of me(therefore blocking out people in front of me who had waited)....but if I am first....what does it matter? Is there some sort of unwritten rule that EVERYONE must sit in line all day?

Dear Ellipses Lover:
Don't do it. If you want to do standing room, you'd better put forth the effort yourself.

Posted: 1/27/12 at 9:09amClaudia, there's someone I've seen on craigslist who offers to stand in line for you for standing room tickets and they claim to have a 100% success rate. I'd be cautious, but it might be worth a shot.

Hey Claudia, I'm interested (broke student here). Sending you a PM with my contact info!
Oh, and I walked by the theatre today at around 1 PM, and there was only one guy in line.

Posted: 4/3/12 at 12:33pmApologies if I missed a more recent thread about this, but how has standing room been lately? If I were to go, say, next Thursday, and get there between 1:30 and 2:00, would I have a chance to get tickets for that evening's show? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Posted: 4/4/12 at 12:02amYes, you'll be safe. If you're there before 3 you're generally good on a weekday as long as it isn't a holiday, but I like to play it safe.

Posted: 4/6/12 at 10:53amIf I go this upcoming Thursday the 12th for the 7 P.M. show, what time do you think I should get on line? And just curious, can you go for the lottery while on line?

I think that some schools may be off that week for vacation/spring break so it may be more difficult than it normally is. I'd say, on the safe side, to arrive between 1:30 and 2.
Yes, you can enter the lottery. Someone from the box office will come down and hand everyone in the SRO line slips. Just have someone hold your place while you turn it in. Once when I did SRO, someone in the line won the ticket but for the partial view box seat. They decided they'd rather stand with a full view so they turned it down.
