I was at the first preview and I enjoyed the show thoroughly! I am seeing it again tomorrow so I will post some views after the show then. Donald Webber Jr. and Loren Lott are both great as leads, and it so good to see them have a chance to star! Stand-out by far is Kirsten Wyatt,  she has the entire audience rolling down the aisles in every scene she is in!

I was wondering about this! Donald was the best Hamilton I ever saw. I hope this is great so it transfers and I get to see him do something else big. He’s a star. And Loren Lott was great when I saw her in Island. What is the story?

I saw the previous iteration of this in DC a couple of seasons ago. Based on the current press, it looks like they haven’t fixed the critical problem with the plot: it’s basically a lie. Winans is an incredibly talented musician and performer who also had some really low points in his life, and whose fame was often propelled with help from really unethical people. The musical just ignores those parts, including Jim Bakker’s crimes, BeBe’s own alleged domestic violence, and a lot of really virulent racism. It comes off as self-congratulatory rather than narrative-driven, and all of the nuance is stripped out in favor of an exclusively positive portrayal of some very complex and flawed people. I don’t see this show getting any better or more interesting as long as Winans maintains creative control, because he’s not writing a true story, he’s writing hero-worship.

The music is still outstanding, though!

They have added a scene that includes Jimmy talking to BeBe about his crimes, as well as there are many comments between the Bakkers about "not speaking to each other for weeks" or "I have an... appointment".

BeBe comes off as a flawed person, who lost his path trying to get to fame, and I don't consider itself congratulatory what so ever. Maybe it has changed, who knows.
