Sean Penn as Martha
The Rock as George
Hayden Christenson & Orlando Bloom as Nick & Honey
If you could stunt cast "Woolf" as with an all-male cast who would you pick?
(The context of the article was a sidebar in which the main article was a review of Mr & Mrs. Smith blasting the purported stunt casting of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The paper then ran other theroretical stunt casting culminating in Virgina Woolf.)
Uh, I wouldn't let The Rock anywhere near it, that's for sure. Or Orlando Bloom, for that matter.

And certainly not on stage.
So who would you cast?
I'm thinking on it.
Ian McKellan as George
Sean Connery as Martha
Elijah Wood as Honey
Chris Evans (the Cellular) as Nick
What make casting a show with all male actors 'gay'? I don't understand that.

George and Martha are married and therefore presumably together. If the actors playing them were male, then then George and Martha would be gay. Nick and Honey are married and therefore presumably together, and both male, and then they would be GAY.
You see, sometimes, there is a bird and bee and they meet. But in these enlightened times, sometimes birds meets birds and bees meet bees...... and they come together.....

Although he has frequently denied that it was so, there was a lot of speculation during the original production that Albee wrote "Woolf" about a gay couple. This was mostly due to the sharp-tongued wit and their inability to have a child of their own.

bwaysinger, i'd just like to say that chris is a good friend of mine... same town, same high school, same community theatre, etc... it's nice to see that some people know who he is!
Cherry Jones as Martha & I am thinking about the other 3 leads
Kevin Kline as George, Kevin Spacey as Martha.
Albee went out of his way to deny the gay concept, saying if that is what he had intended he would have written it for four guys, and taking action against any planned all-male productions.

Yes he's actually gone to court to block all-male productions, saying that it perverts the meaning of the show.
That said, in college we did an (informal) all male reading to see how it played. Worked great I thought!
I would love this to happen......I call the part of Honey!!!!!!
Perhaps Jerry Herman could write the musical:
Gary Beach as Martha
Daniel Davis as George
Patrick Wilson as Nick
Gavin Creel as Honey
*waits for Corine2*
Just what Beach needs after the La Cage fiasco - another drag role. There is a stretch.
I cannot believe this thread has been around for roughly ten hours and nobody has suggested Nathan Lane as Martha.

I actually typed it and deleted it MEF-- I had Lithgow & Lane and then couldn't think of a good younger couple.
I thought about Matthew Broderick and....
Since Nathan & Matthew seem inseparable lately....

George - Ian Hom
Martha - Nathan Lane
Nick - Josh Lucas
Honey - Barret Foa
George - William H Macy
Martha - Mickey Rourke
Nick - Josh Hartnett
Honey - Matt Damon
fascinating cast!
My uncle went to the same university as Mr. Albee (though at different times). Apparently the popular game to play was Pick Which Professor and His Partner George and Martha Was Based On.
Nathan Lane as Martha? A sexually voracious virago? No, Nathan Lane as Honey.

Robbie - my university had a history with Mart Crowley, so we did exactly the same thing with THE BOYS IN THE BAND
