i dont know what post to which you are making reference, but i agree with you on your general point. and i'd like to add that you managed to not let your disgust turn your post into a complete rant like i just did on another thread.

I agree with your comment also. The problem with being in a message board situation comes with where it is anonymous and you don't know the people. So, even if someone is attempting to be funny through sarcasm there are times when either it might be written in a way in which the sarcasm is mistaken for honest beliefs. Also, seeing as you don't know the people its harder to read how someone will take a given comment. Some people can handle criticism and argument and some can't but either way there's no need for personal attacks.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

...and sometimes people are just rude and that is the only adjective worth using on them. though we do tend to apply many that they dont deserve. "funny", for instance.

For clarification, since obviously the posts I've referred to are public anyway - someone called Sandy Duncan 'one-eyed' and another said - in referrence to Ray Charles' death - 'he never saw it coming.' And I truly appreciate the points that have just been made - and I understand them. Maybe that's why I word my thoughts so carefully, so as to not confuse the matter with interpretation that is many times impossible. But, I really don't think that handicap humor is appropriate, no matter the context. God help those that find themselves in a similar situation, and that is the level of compassion they are dealt.

Yes, you're right but I actually meant funny in that case. I'm a big one for being funny through sarcasm but thats not the same as being rude through it. Its a line you have to walk, and one I've chosen to avoid all together on a message board by not using sarcasm at all. Some people just don't see the need to do that but there's no way to stop them.

i didnt mean to catch an attitude, ive just been reading a lot of posts that have pissed me off tonight. i wasnt even refering to your use of the word "funny", i just meant the way that rudeness is so often celebrated here.

No attitude has been caught re: Boundaries or not?

...although I did reread my post about 5 times to see if it looked like I was trying to cover up rude with funny.
