This seems like a step down for him. Murray is a "sit in the dressing room and wait for your cue" type role. I thought if he were looking to do stage work, he would find something more meaty.

I agree... the "poker buddies" get a few spare lines thrown around at the poker table scenes, but are nothing special. Suprising to see him taking a role like this...

When I read the thread title, I assumed he was playing Oscar. Maybe he's understudying Nathan and will then take over the role?
Ummmm NO! He's not understudying the role...also, it is a limited engagement, so when they all leave, the show closes

Well, then I guess he thinks it's just a great honor to play Broadway, and playing a minor role in a star vehicle for others is worth it.

Murray the Cop *does* have a good amount of one-liners, however, most of you guys are right, since most of them belong to Nathan Lane's character, Oscar. I'm pretty excited about this since I've laughed so hard at "The Producers" and I laughed as I read the play and saw the movie.
God, this show seems to sound worse by the minute. I will not be attending, I can tell you that.

I'd rather see him as Oscar opposite either Lane OR Broderick as Felix.
I get the feeling this may turn out to be an "all-star" cast, especially since it's a limited run.
This one is definitely shaping up nicely.
There was really no need for a revival of this. I heard some audio on amazon (maybe?) of Nathan Lane doing a reading of Oscar. Without hesitation, I can say he is totally WRONG for this role and his reading was AWFUL...there really is no need for this show to be back in NYC since there are so many untold stories out there, waiting to be staged.
Murray is a nice featured role, and Brad Garrett is not often mentioned in the same breath as Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, so it certainly doesn't feel like a step down. I'd like to see Nathan and Matthew switch roles for fun. Felt the same about Jason Alexander and Martin Short in L.A.'s Producers.
There was talk of Nathan and Matthew switching parts throughout the run. Similar to what is done often with True West. I don't think this is a step down for Garrett, but it's definitely a step in the right direction if he wants to do more Broadway. He'll be hillarious. And they're probably paying him very handsomely. This revival is going to be absolutely star-studded.

Brad said in an interview with a Chicago newspaper today that theyre considering having him understudy Nathan
I couldn't care less. Matthew will do his nerd part again, so who cares?
anyone else been cast or mentioned?
seems logical Brad would understudy so the audience don't ask for their $ back if Nathan Misses.
and Nathan is a wonderful actor.
don't expect Max at all
Can't wait. Brad Garret is the man.

Woops.
I can see that
"Star in Odd Couple revival" ?
"Star" is not the term used for the role of Murray.
