Obstructed View Book of Mormon? Apr 4 2011, 12:03:59 AM
Super obstructed from far-side seats, first few rows. Anything happening upstage (and lots happens upstage) might as well be radio. It still sounds funny - but better to sit back and see it all.

Just watched this on Tivo, and I specifically heard Arthur say there was "one brief, shining moment". Did I miss it?

re: Sorority Girls in UCLA- Legally Blonde Question Jul 7 2007, 12:04:48 PM
You can "buy" your way into a state school? I wasn't aware of this option. UCLA, to my understanding, does not have a Legacy policy, does not accept Letters of Recommendation with applications, and is pretty much a numbers crunch: Test Scores + GPA + ECs + Essay. I guess if you brought in a marching band into the Chancellor's office, maybe...

Rosie has done so much good for so many people. Is there a more fierce and outspoken defender of Freedom of Speech, of Equal Rights, of Children? The View is touted as an honest exchange of opinions, and no one has ever done it more honestly and with better intent than Rosie O. She will be missed.

Great gift for a theater grad? May 9 2007, 11:01:04 PM
An old friend's daughter is graduating Tisch this week, staying on in NYC to act (with luck). Any thoughts on a good gift? I was thinking an introductory-level Public Theater membership maybe, but what is that really? Will take all suggestions - thanks!

re: Our Town 1977 & 1989 TV versions out on DVD Apr 14 2007, 09:36:59 PM
Just got my copy from Amazon. Overpriced/priceless - tomato/tomahto. Love the 1989 (this world misses Spaulding Gray). It's simple, sly, and by virtue of having a sense of humor, becomes that much more dramatic in the 2nd and 3rd acts. In the 1977 version I can't get past the constant sound effects - God, have any glass milk bottles ever clinked more than Howie Newsome's? Like the Showtime disc with Paul Newman. But fave disc of all is OT - an Our Town

re: Sister Act Pictures Jan 27 2007, 01:34:50 PM
From The Atlantic Constitution-Journal's Wendell Brock, a far more positive assessment: If you groaned when you heard that “Sister Act” was being turned into a musical, that’s because you were remembering how dumb Hollywood can be. Fear not, oh, ye of little faith. The creators of “Sister Act: The Musical” have found divine inspiration in the flat-footed 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg as a lounge singer-turned-nun on the run. A world premiere co-pro

re: COMPANY: my feelings and thoughts Nov 16 2006, 08:04:59 AM
I can't comment on the orchestrations and lack of brass, because I'm not a musician. I come at it from a writing pov, and for me, the play COMPANY has never played better! I loved the acting - or better - the non-acting. Found the performances completely realistic and engaging, every one - and especially Raul. Jokes weren't pushed - laughs were discovered, and if one of the iconic one-liners that usually hits us over the head, instead sneaks up and surprises us - well, what a del

re: Official Sister Act Reviews Nov 8 2006, 11:37:51 AM
FROM REUTERS: LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The Pasadena Playhouse wraps up its 2006-07 season with the world premiere of a hugely entertaining musical comedy featuring savvy lyrics, a bouncy score, a book that gives every character a chance to shine and a cast chosen to perfection. Without a single superstar onstage, "Sister Act the Musical" makes superstars of everyone in the theater. Many may approach this adaptation of the hit 1992 movie -- which starred Whoopi Goldber

Young Playwrights Festival - catch it while you can! May 20 2006, 10:39:23 AM
I can schill, I'm a mom. FROM THIS MORNING'S NY TIMES: The 24th Annual Young Playwrights Festival at Peter Jay Sharp Theater By ANDREA STEVENS Published: May 20, 2006 Until and unless it dies, theater will always be a place where, on a good night, a society can see itself, fears and obsessions made flesh, the future glimpsed in the dark. When the plays are by teenagers, probably all the more so. That is the case now at the Young Playwrights Festiv

Taking my 11-year-old. She already knows every breath of "Ring Them Bells" and "L with a Z". Up next - "Bye-Bye, Blackbird". You can't start 'em too young.
