Thought you might like to see a pic of Brad Oscar in "Cabaret" at DC's Arena Stage. (Sorry for the quality but it's a newspaper photo)
I like him, but GOD that's a scary picture.
Brad is a great performer and I can soooo see him as the Emcee... and a good one at that. If I still lived in Richmond, I'd be there!
I can't wait to see this on Sunday. He was excellent in Damn Yankees.
that's frightening. I cannot imagine him in this role. Updated On: 9/15/06 at 05:43 PM
I can. I can see him being really wonderfully creepy and terrifying with that big booming voice of his.
I'm glad he's been busy doing such interesting projects since leaving THE PRODUCERS.
This review of "Cabaret" from the Washington Post is incredibly accurate - from my point of view anyway.
One thing this reviewer never mentioned was the singing. This is absolutely the best SUNG Cabaret I have ever heard. I'd give an arm to have this cast recorded.
That's weird. The link showed up when I previewed that post - then it disappeared. Try it here:

I saw this on Sunday and have some issues with the Post review, though they were spot on it some areas. It was very well sung and I for one, loved Meg Gillentine's take on Sally Bowles- dancing, singing, and acting. Brad Oscar did not wow me over, didn't think he was well suited for the role acting wise. In the beginning, he was having mike problems I think, because it was hard to hear even from the second row. He does have a fabulous voice, but not particularly well-suited for this role. While I liked some of Molly Smith's changes (particularly the ending- use of the train etc), she was at times heavy handed and blatantly made parallels to current events. Cabaret has a political message on its own and does not need "assistance" and for the most part, DC audiences, usually immersed in politics, are not dumb (save for the annoying college students behind me who insisted trying to figure out what was happening out loud). As such, its possible that the general audience could have made some of the linkages between the Weimar Republic and current issues today, if they were so inclined, on their own.
