On ensemble member Andrew Kober's twitter page, he tweeted that the cast went through their first complete run through of the show. So, that means there was a rather dramatic switch between Charlotte and Samantha. So interesting, so very interesting...

Sounds like what I interpreted it as, which was they decided half-way through rehearsals, "Wait, she's kind of young and inexperienced, isn't she?" Which of course would be a total surprise given that they probably cast her after only one very brief audition...NOT.

This is something they should have considered BEFORE hiring her. I firmly believe in sticking with your casting decisions, unless the person turns out to be a total trainwreck. You can't treat people this way, especially a twenty year-old girl who I'm sure is now totally devastated. But add it to Cameron Mackintosh's casualty list...Mark Campbell, Ben Davis, Lawrence Clayton...who's next? He's out of control.

I don't mean to thread jack, but if he replaces Eva Noblezada as Kim, I am going to flip

I am not sure I buy her whole "age being the issue" thing. I know that in recent years, in the London production, they have been casting the leads much younger these days. I also know that Andy Mientus is making his Broadway debut as Marius so I'm not sure that experience plays a factor in it either. But, what I don't understand is that if they had to make this switch, why now? Why when rehearsals have started and not before?

I can say that as a casting director, it could be many things. Yes, age can be a big factor and sometimes you won't know it till half way through. Sometimes it can be hard to see how someone will do when you are only seeing audition. I bet many producers have cast people who were fantastic at auditions and even look great, but to later see that it just does not work after all. I think all were very professional about it and life will go on and Maltby will land great things!
