Re: Downstate Premiering on Broadway this Fall?

Aug 27, 2026 — 1:06:12 AM

Fred Mason said: "There is absolutely zero chance Mantello can improve upon what MacKinnon did with this play. She didn’t give away the “surprise” early on, there was a huge gasp when I saw this, it was genuinely shocking. I look forward to seeing your tail between your legs this fall, coffee"IMO it’s a major flaw of the script that the “surprise” isn’t really a surprise (if we’re talking about the same one, with the character of Felix). I’ve only read the play, not seen it, and the writing r...

Re: THE FANTASTICKS at the Hayes -- Casting Speculation

Aug 24, 2026 — 1:15:37 PM

The Rural Juror said: "Waiting on casting to purchase tickets to this. Would love to see Mary Testa as one of the mothers."Yeah, if this is going to have houses above like 60% capacity every night, they are going to need some big names playing El Gallo and the two mothers. There's really nothing justifying turning a small, low-budget Off-Broadway show into a full fledged Broadway musical except for the gimmick of "Oh, and they're gay now." I'm afraid this is just not going to sell without a T...

Re: 10 Things I Hate About You - Broadway, August 2027

Ermengarde, you make a good point. If out of town tryouts are no longer used as originally intended - that is, to work out a show's problems away from critics and with a more forgiving regional audience and then make substantial changes - then there's no point. Might a well just do a lot of workshops and hope for the best.

Disney will launch North American tour of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST in 2025

Aug 16, 2026 — 12:18:26 PM

I was really disappointed in the tour. The original production was one of the first Broadway shows I saw as a kid, and it was magical and unforgettable. The touring production is incredibly cheap looking with overly-long dance breaks replacing cut character-development songs, and some of the casting is a real head-scratcher. If Disney is indeed going to revive BATB on Broadway, they need to start over from scratch and not plop this lame money-grab into the Palace or anywhere else in New York.

Re: Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

Fred Mason said: "Rob is the ONLY actor who has any business doing Damn Yankees. He is PERFECTION. I will be very disappointed if he’s not in it and it would be a mistake for him to choose Paddington over Yankees"I don’t think Rob McClure chose to leave Damn Yankees - rather, the producers were looking for a celebrity to sell more tickets, and Paddington then fell like manna from heaven. I agree that NPH is kind of an odd choice for Applegate though. He strikes me as miscast.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

Look: the bottom line is that Sweaty has not accused Ben Davis of doing anything other than dating younger women and…being a sh*tty boyfriend or something? He vaguely insinuates terrible dealings, but has no receipts and no specific accusations. The posters here jumping to conclusions (i.e. that assault was involved, which SO never even said) are just bringing false credibility to a TikTok video made by a man living in his parents’ basement in New Jersey that appears to be irresponsible pseud...

Re: Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande in SITPWG?

Aug 2, 2026 — 8:21:38 PM

Yeah well, people have said far worse things on this board. I’ve been here a long time and seen some really mean stuff. Anyway, I hope she gets the help she needs (and that certain members of this board do too).

Re: Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande in SITPWG?

Wow. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen this board erupt like that at one of my comments. Just to be clear, calling Ariana Grande a flake is a crime, but calling me a piece of sh*t and telling me to go f*ck myself with a cactus is acceptable?I was not aware of her health issues. My bad. But seriously…some of you people are deeply troubled.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

What an idiot this Segers is. I watched the videos shortly after his casting was announced and they had only like 128 views each. Why did he even keep making them? And he was so smug and obnoxious - he would have been offputting even if he had been talking about the weather. The fact that it didn’t occur to him to take those videos down when he was cast shows what an out of touch narcissist he is. Hope he enjoys doing short films for The Daily Wire because that is all that is going to be left ...

A Winter’s Tale is a mixed bag

Aug 2, 2026 — 11:29:53 AM

I am pretty sure Shakespeare co-wrote The Winter’s Tale with another playwright. Act IV in the very least must have been written by someone else because it’s like a totally different play all of the sudden. We know he co-wrote several other plays (his worst ones, interestingly). I like Winter’s Tale but if they are doing the whole thing uncut (3.5 hours???) that’s crazy.

Re: New Hadestown Casting

The social media backlash against Geno Segers is pretty bad. If this continues, I can see the team buying him out of his contract and bringing in someone else. People are furious about those old YouTube videos.

Tim Hughes dragging Jordan Donica

Jul 30, 2026 — 2:13:00 PM

Jordan Donica will be too busy playing The Phantom of the Opera in London! Fun fact: Jere Shea played Joe Hardy in the out of town tryout of the 1990s Damn Yankees revival, but dropped out of the Broadway transfer to originate the role of Giorgio in Passion. Jarrod Emick replaced him, and won a Tony Award. Will history repeat itself with Donica's replacement...?
