Posted: 4/13/11 at 12:26pmI thought it was a very good interview, actually. I mean, come on, you can't blame the interviewer having a little fun.

"Awards are absurd and totally pointless until you win one and then it's the happiest night of your life."
Love him. A master of his craft, and crafty at that.

No disrespect, but I think you missed the point. Bedford says:
"Awards are absurd and totally pointless until you win one and then it's the happiest night of your life. But it's a pretty long, boring process. You know how tedious it is. It's like a five-hour thing. You have to be there well before the beginning".
Seems pretty clear to me. It's boring and tedious unless you win. He's speaking from a personal point of view.

i considered that possibility, but discounted it as being impossibly self-absorbed, even for an actor. :)
seriously, maybe my perspective was skewed by how i read the subject heading, but i was expecting to read some morsel about the way in which these shows are boring, from which an inference might be drawn as to how they could be made less so.
it's an insightful and endearing observation about human nature, but these shows have greater or lesser reputations for inducing boredom, and nothing in the interview suggests why that's so.

Bedford's bein' saucy.
Same thing is said about bridal and baby showers. Really boring unless you're the bride or the mother to-be.
