I heard this rumor today and wanted to see if anyone has heard anything similar/thinks there could be any validity. There is probably no way to find out other than see how/where his singing career goes....
Someone (a reputable opinion) observed that during his second run of Next to Normal, BDJ sounded heavier, more "baritoney", strained... etc. While doing Shrek, he had to do a vocally difficult Scottish accent which is very much in one's throat (& very different from his normal technique) and with the voice, sreaming (in that and Time Stands Still) - this person made the comment about the cause of the possible vocal damage.
Curious as to thoughts.

Posted: 10/20/10 at 10:01pmI saw him multiple times in n2n and he never once sounded "strained." In fact, he sounded stronger and better than I've ever heard him before.

I just re-listened to some "archival footage" from his first and last performances on Broadway, and he sounded just as strong at the end as he did at the beginning.
His voice is really remarkable, and his Dan remains untouched.
