Posted: 2/1/08 at 12:26pmI was actually thinking that. I would love to hear Thorell sing it! But doesn't it seem that Borle is at the point in his career where he's not going to take a non-singing supporting role?

Maybe they are re-assigning songs? If they are really overhauling the book, maybe the character of Jeff will sing some?
Hmmm

Posted: 2/1/08 at 3:39pmI have mixed feelings about that, but it's purely for selfish reasons: I'm ashamed to admit that I NEVER have seen a production of Brigadoon anywhere -- not on Broadway, not in summer stock, not high school, nothing. Therefore, I'm feeling somewhat gypped that I'm not seeing a "traditional" production. Of course, if I had seen a traditional production, then I'd be revved up about seeing the revised version. But (hopefully) at least I'll be able to add it to my list.

Posted: 2/1/08 at 3:50pmI have to say that I am not a BRIGADOON fan, but I am really waiting for a production to prove to me that it's a good show...because I want to like it. But I don't. At all.
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

I think it has the potential to be beautiful and even thrilling. Though I've never seen a production that's either.
However, I was NEVER really a fan of Camelot until I saw PaperMill's production in...was it 1995? It starred James Brennan (who was wonderful) and a production design that was overwhelmingly magical. And the Guenivere (sp???) was magnificent. Can't remember her name for the life of me.
If Camelot can be saved for me, I imagine Brigadoon could be saved as well.

How are the song lyrics supposed to work? It's not just the dialog that sounds like a 1700s Scottish village... many of the song lyrics are crafted in that style as well.
Who the hell was saying, "Dinna ye know, Tommy" in 1939?
This kinda sounds terrible.
Write your own damn show if you want to say something about war and peace.
I give up. When is professional theatre going to stop acting like either a college directing class or a Vegas floor show?

Posted: 2/1/08 at 7:37pmI would love to see a "Brigadoon" revival, but I don't think the book needs to be rewritten. I have a great deal of respect for Guare, but this retooling sounds like a bad idea to me.
