Posted: 6/21/06 at 2:22pmAm I wrong in thinking that someone on this forum is in that show, playing Jeremy's little brother? Somebody verify or refute, please. :)

Yes, Pippin(Jonathan Shade) plays Michael.
That was a great video that gave you a taste of the phenomenal cast. Everyone sounds wonderful. Orfeh kicked the hell outta those two songs, and she sounds phenomenal. Jeremy's voice is perfect for Jamie, Jonathan sounds so sincere and has a gorgeous voice, and Andy sounds absolutely amazing, though they cut off right before my favorite part of Back in the City. Everyone seems to get their moment to shine, which is great.

Posted: 6/21/06 at 5:18pmThis is a Godsend for me as I'm missing it completely. And it comes as no surprise that once again, Orfeh is absolutely wonderful and indeed, looks and sounds better than ever! Pippin, is great as is the ultra sexy, Karl.

For some reason they don't have the photo section posted on the mail page of broadway.com anymore (unless I am blind). I think they took it down when they added the video. The actual link to the photos is http://www.broadway.com/Gen/Buzz_Photo_op.aspx?ci=531770 Enjoy! :)

Cde, it was on the homepage this morning. Maybe they took it down when the video went on.
I have ONE thing to say about that video feature...
Orfeh = Evita

Orfeh=Evita=PERFECT Fosterchild. Another one of those scratch you head moments when I didn't hear her mentioned for the London production, especially since the woman they did hire was an "Annette" in an overseas production of Fever, long after the fact. Ridiculous.
I find something different pops out with each viewing (hey, this is as close as I'm going to get).
I'm still stuck on Karls' performance moment. I don't know what reviews you're referring to AlmostX but I distinctly recall Karl getting many of the same adjectives ascribed to him in SLUT, particularly in the national trades re: Variety. Maybe you're quoting a review I wouldn't have even bothered reading. They hated the show, not Karl. Seems to be the theme with BLBC as well. I also noticed toliver likes the word "like" like, alot :)

Posted: 6/22/06 at 8:44amLOVE THE VIDEO! LOVE ORFEH! I think al's been "trying" to make Orfeh Evita for years. Lots of posts on that topic. I don't remember seeing such bull said about Andy Karl in Slut either but thanks to AlmostXfamous, now we all know. Who cares, the proof is in the video and Variety. Maybe it's just me, but I'm far more interested in what a highly respected national trade thinks than say, Talking Broadway or the post.

Al, I think that may have been the Talkin' Broadway review.
Either way, I think Andy's a great actor. He did a fine job in Slut and is giving a formidable performance in BLBC!

Posted: 6/22/06 at 2:59pmI love this show, but it needs a better production. The set or lack thereof is horrible for this production. The choreography and direction look horrid judging from the clips. The performances seem great, but they all seem to be very static and boring because they have no real direction.

Posted: 6/22/06 at 3:47pmDirection aside, I wouldn't call any of the performances static.

Rentboy, your whole post is a contradiction. The cast, with few exceptions, is fantastic so let's not get on them. I saw it and it was the *direction* that was "static", not the performances.

Posted: 6/23/06 at 12:12pmPart of the problem with the internet and clips like this is that people form these opinions about shows they really haven't seen . I cannot imagine how anyone can judge DIRECTION of a show from a few clips. Furthermore, when a show is given $1.99 to build a set, one can A) buy tons of construction paper and build a set with 20 different locations that looks like a kindergarten project; or B) build ONE unit set that is abstract, yet classy and can be 100 different things. I suppose you Rentboy would opt for the construction paper. If you're not going to travel to Philly to see the show, as many of us have, your criticism isn't worth sharing. Those who've seen it have both pointed out it's pros and cons, justifiably so-the show needs work. But it's the first stage production of this revised version...give it a chance. Sometimes the internet is more of a curse than a blessing.
