It's the new Delicate Dialectic - people think it's perfectly fine to censor others, claiming the need for a "safe space" and other such nonsense, when it's really nothing more than a total developmental arrest, never having learned how to accept opposing points of view.
Express any opinion you like, except the one that says others shouldn't be allowed to express theirs.

SLS... your argument lost all validity when you brought in an OPINION: However, Bright Star is far from the worst thing on Broadway at the moment and wasn't treated to Zhivago-like reviews.
we aren't talking about the reviews or what people liked. we are talking about the commercial appeal and economic viability of a Broadway musical, which does indeed impact employed artists (although that serves a terribly poor argument in opposition). people are speculating, analyzing, discussing and debating. NOT spreading lies or misinformation.
you are the epitome of double talk right now. denouncing the actors who wanted to shut this board down while nearly suggesting the SAME thing (censoring harmless conversation). again, you cannot have it both ways and i do not know how you perceive this thread as "lashing out." i haven't seen any crazy harsh, or overly negative, discussion.

Scroll past the NSFW work stuff about Grindr and there's a review, which is fairly favorable but says the plot twist, even if based on a real incident, comes off cliched and like a Lifetime movie.

I actually just searched for this thread to see if there was something on this topic, so I wanted to chime in as to what part of its purpose may be. I think these discussions can be helpful for those of us who do not live in New York and who may not know much (or anything) about how these things work and why decisions are made. Through these boards, I've learned about running costs, recouping, theaters kicking shows out, and how things like awards/nominations/licensing and touring potential may affect how long producers keep shows open. For me, even though of course no one can predict anything with certainty, this information helps me plan my trips to best optimize my chances of seeing everything I want to see. It didn't used to matter when I got to New York only once a year or so because I'd just see the shows at the top of my list, but now that I have a lot more opportunities (but still not unlimited options), and can go deeper on my list it really helps me organize my trips. After all, I can't just wait for a show to post a closing notice and know for sure I can go snag a ticket if I won't be back for several months.
For example, I sought out this thread on bright star because I am coming to New York with my parents in June, and I will be there with other friends and on my own a few times between now and then. I really want to make sure I see this show, but I would like to see it with my dad (who loves bluegrass) in June if possible. So if I think there is a good chance it will stay open, I'll wait. Fortunately for me, with two trips in April and one in May, I can wait it out a bit more before deciding in this particular case, but sometimes that's not true. So if I'm planning a trip and know I'm unlikely to be back for a few months, it's helpful for me to know which shows I want to see are most likely to close before a return visit. I don't think it's a negative thing, particularly since most of the time when I read these threads most people are not celebrating the fact that a show isn't doing well at the box office but are saying it's too bad shows they enjoyed didn't do better. (Of course that's not always the case, but it doesn't take long to figure out whose comments are more helpful/informed than others.)
So thanks to everyone who provides their thoughts and information. It has actually helped my planning tremendously and I've been able/will be able to see nearly all the shows on my list this season!!

Speaking of Broadway economics and also coming from an out of towner, can someone speculate as to how the show is playing to 95% full houses but only making 42% of potential gross, especially if, as someone said, it hasn't been on TDF? Have they been flat out papering?

Not necessarily papering (although they probably are), but a lot of the tickets are being sold at a hefty discount.
That being said, the show will close when the producers say it will. You have no idea as to the reserves the producers have, or if anything else is looking at the theatre. They will last at least to the summer, in my opinion

Would comps for Tony voters/press affect that as well? So would that bring the average ticket price down/increase attendance without increasing grosses? I don't even know how many Tony voters there are so I don't know how much that could affect things. (Obviously I assume it wouldn't account for the entire disparity.)

Yes, press comps are included. No Tony voters yet. They haven't been nominated for anything.

Tony NOMINATORS have tix made available to them. Press tix after opening are also going to be minimal.

The rules say the producers must invite each of the eligible Tony voters for performances occurring no later than the earlier of 16 weeks after opening or before the annual Tony nominating meeting. That seems to be more than just nominates.
Which makes sense. Otherwise voters who weren't nominations would never have the opportunity to see shows that closed prior to the nominations. Because of that it seems like shows would have to invite voters to more than just nominated shows.
