Look at all of this fabulousness and ridiculousness!! This musical comedy opened on the West End to rave reviews and was nominated for 3 Olivier Awards including Best Musical. Someone produce this!

Fantastic musical that was worthy of more success than it gained. It stands head and shoulders above most other musicals so far this decade.

We saw it in London during our 2011 visit. It was quite enjoyable. I still listen to the cast recording every now and then.

I saw it in London. It's a fun musical, but a bit uneven. I'm not sure there's an audience for it on Broadway. The story centers around a pig which is fun for about five minutes but becomes a bit tedious as many times as they use it. It needs a very strong leading lady, acting, singing, dancing, in her 40s and I don't know who that would be on Broadway.

I saw it in London. It was fine at best. It had a fun premise, but a completely forgettable score. And honestly, it would flounder over here.

I actually think it would hit. Some of the more obscure fun shows hit like Xanadu. We need sutton or Patti to do this

The pig isn't any different from a person. It talks and everything. It's just like any other character in a musical. Do people get tedious on stage

It did not do well on west end. I doubt it would do well here.

Yes, some characters are tedious on stage. I understand the whole purpose of the show is about the pig, but it seemed to interfere with the more interesting story of them surviving the war.

Neither of which can be believed as a Maggie Smith type woman. Patti is way too old and too loud to play Joyce and not funny enough to play the old mother.

Both too old. Joyce is supposed to be a middle aged house wife. Beth is 60 and Andea is 68, which puts you into grandmotherly roles in theater.

Betty Blue Eyes was a very sweet, very silly and nearly unmarketable show, sabotaged by its producer's insistence that the animatronic pig was the star instead of any of the human beings on stage. It had a good score, excellent central performances (even if they weren't the greatest singers/dancers in the world), and strong direction and choreography. If it had kept the original film title of A Private Function and had better branding I think it could have lasted longer; but that was the season of Matilda, so there wasn't really a hope of a single award going its way (and Matilda is a better show, IMO).
It should never go to Broadway, it would be utterly wrong for the market (it has played the US, though - it was done at Wichita a couple of years ago!).
I saw a very poor student production of it a while ago; while they could all sing nicely and dance well, they sucked all the humour out of it
I hope the UK tour did a better job!
