Broadway Abroad

Seeing the announcement regarding The Lion King in Shanghai made me wonder whether artistic changes are typically made when Broadway shows are performed abroad. The Lion King article implies that it will be the same show in Shanghai as the one in New York. But how about other productions? Has anyone seen the same show both in the States and abroad? Were they different and how?

I have seen many shows abroad and on Broadway, sometimes they make better shows than on Broadway! and I don't think the translation changes the show at all.

Really? Do the audiences abroad react to the show the same way? For example, are the same things still funny when translated? And what about shows that are quintessentially American, like Oklahoma - what is it like seeing those abroad?
