Can anyone attend this event???
I'm going to be there and I just read that the celebrity presentations and stuff begin at 5:30 which is perfect because I'm going to probably see a matinee that day so I'll be out by the time it starts...I would love to see all the celebs there!!! I just wish I could bring my dog

Posted: 6/21/09 at 4:49pmWell see I live in California so I'll just be visiting...otherwise if I lived there I would totally bring my dog! So at this event, will we just be watching the celebrities do their presentations or will there be meet and greets and stuff like that???

Ah gotcha. :)
The organizations set up with their dogs and cats at the start of the event, and you can wander around and talk with the volunteers from the organizations and interact with the animals. Pictures are always welcomed too. There are also usually a couple of tables with merchandise like t-shirts and posters ~ and I'd assume they'll be selling Bernadette's book again as well.
Oh yeah...there was an auction of "autograph hounds" ~ stuffed dogs decorated and signed by various show casts.
There isn't really a meet and greet table per-se. When they are presenting the animals, the celebrities are assigned (usually one show does one organization) and will read descriptions of the organization as well as for the animals available.
I'm linking to my album on facebook from last year...

Posted: 6/21/09 at 5:02pmI can't find anything about the cost of this program. I'm sorry if I'm being stupid, but is this one of those things where you just donate money and they have a suggested donation? Or is it completely free? It looks like a fun and cute event, I'll definitely try to go if I can!

Your link doesn't work
I know that I'm seeing the matinee of 9 to 5 that day, so I'll be there in time for the "celebrity presentations" which it says starts at 5:30...
So I can walk from table to table and there will be various celebs there?? I can't wait!! It's going to be like all of my favorite broadway people all around me...I won't be able to handle it! hahah

I don't recall the celebs being at the tables...only brought up with the animals when they're presenting. The presentations take place on a stage. (I'm trying the link again...I had it set to friends only...but I changed it to "everyone", so hopefully it will work this time.)
The event itself is free. You can purchase things from some of the tables, and many of the organizations will take donations. Also, any adoptions that take place that day would be subject to those fees. But to just attend, thee is no charge.

Posted: 6/21/09 at 5:48pmThere is no cost for the event. We sell raffle tickets and playbills. The celebrities do not meet and greet, they only present the animals for adoption. Bernadette will be signing her book,"Broadway Barks."

Posted: 6/21/09 at 5:50pmAwesome pictures, jordangirl!! You were so close!! I'm guessing it's rather crowded...will I have time to get over there for the celebrity presentations if I'm seeing a matinee show??? I don't care if I have to stand far away, I'm 6'4', so I can see over everyone :)

Posted: 6/21/09 at 6:17pmThanks! :) If the presentatinos start at 5:30, you should have time...it's right across the street from the Marquis, so you should be ok. Especially if you're tall. :)

"Awesome pictures, jordangirl!!
...I know, right? I got to see them last year just right after the event. It was so great to have someone who took the time to post these (I think I remember you were so tired, Jordangirl, but still gave us these beautiful shots), for those of us who could no attend.
I have become a big fan of Broadway Barks, and last year supported Bernadette by buying a copy of her book (which BTW, is REALLY cute!).
Hope someday to make it there "live"
And wish I could get my book signed by Bernadette!
Which celebrities will be there this year, anyone knows...?

This trip is going to be the best...I'm coming up to celebrate my 21st birthday...I haven't been to NY since I was 17 so I'm THRILLED to go back and see 5 shows and get to go to Broadway Barks!! It's going to be amazing!!! I'm just worried I'm not going to see Gavin Creel in Hair, Sutton in Shrek, and Alice in Next To Normal...

Posted: 6/21/09 at 9:53pmI am very excited. I didn't actually think this trip was going to happen. But my mom and I really talked about it...and since I'm moving to Southern California in the fall (I live in the SF Bay Area), and since I'm turning 21, and can afford to pay some of the trip, that we could actually make it happen! So yeah she's only seeing 4 shows, but I really wanted to see 9 to 5 so I'm seeing it by myself hahaha. I can't wait and it's just a coincidence that I'm going to be there the weekend of Broadway Barks, so it works out perfectly!!!

It'll be my first time there too and I'm really excited. I'm also planning on going to a matinee and getting there in time for the celebrity presentations (and hopefully walk around to the tables if I have time).

Each year at Broadway Barks, one-of-a-kind stuffed dogs that are signed by the casts (and in some cases, decorated by the wardrobe departments) of some of Broadway's hottest shows are auctioned to raise money for the Picasso Veterinary Fund of the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals.
Here's your opportunity to own an Autographed Hound of Broadway from among some of Broadway's most popular shows and at the same time help NYC's homeless animals! Some of the 20 shows represented are All My Sons, Billy Elliott, Blithe Spirit, Equus, Hair, Hairspray, 9 to 5, South Pacific, West Side Story, and more. There is also a special hound honoring Broadway Barks, signed by founders Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore.
How Does This Auction Help Animals?
The Picasso Veterinary Fund, founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore in 2003 and administered by the Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, pays for extraordinary medical care for sick and injured dogs and cats that come in to Animal Care & Control of NYC (A&C) and are transferred to other Mayor's Alliance Participating Organizations ? shelters and rescue groups ? that find them new homes. These are animals who, without the aid of the Fund, would likely be euthanized because the resources to care for them simply aren't there.
How Do I Bid on the Hounds?
The Autographed Hounds of Broadway will go on display beginning Friday, June 26, at the Christofle boutique at 680 Madison Avenue. Pre-bids will be accepted at the store until July 10. (Later in the month, Christofle will host two special shopping days, when it will donate 15% of the store's sales to the Picasso Veterinary Fund.)
Bidding will continue at Broadway Barks on July 11 beginning at 3:30 p.m., where final bids will be accepted in the silent auction.
Bids will start at $150.00. Payment may be made by check, cash, or credit card.
