Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/4/2007

Indeed, the reported weekly grosses include deductions for weekly royalties in addition to the usual 6% of weekly grosses that theatre owners charge.

It's fine and wonderful to ask questions on this board, but again, please don't pretend to know how Broadway works financially, cause it's fairly easy for those of us that do to spot your ignorance.

They just put out a discount for "Xanadu" tickets.

I'm happy - It's such a good show... and I hope it helps re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/4/2007

*** gross /groʊs/ adjective, -er, -est, noun, plural gross for 11, gross·es for 12, 13; verb
–adjective
1. without deductions; total, as the amount of sales, salary, profit, etc., before taking deductions for expenses, taxes, or the like (opposed to net): gross earnings; gross sales.

*********************************************************************

I think most of what is being explained has already been said. As for being ignorant, whose fault is that? We only have what is posted in those reports to go by? Either way though, it does give us a ballpark average of how many people are going to any particular show and the avg. ticket prices. It only influences me on how much people are paying and how available are seats for this particular time period. I won't skip a show just based on this information. I might look for a discount, if it is a show I am not too sure I will really enjoy but now I can see it at what I consider a fair price.

I know to take in a shows running period and how much money they have already earned as to how realistic these figures are. Of course though, I learned most of this from reading this column. I think Mr. Roxy just made a mistake. I have seen some who know better hope to influence others to think some shows are closing or should close. If however, it motivates some to go out and see a show, how is that a bad thing?

Most of what is posted here is just opinions. Some people are new to this board and many are not involved in this particular industry. I myself feel no shame in not knowing something because of how they like to practice their bookkeeping. Personally, we are taught that there are standard bookkeeping procedures that we are told are universally practiced. So pls forgive those of us who didn't realize initially that these figures come to us with certain deductions. It is however nice when someone does speak up without trying to be too condescending, when you know this isn't typical business practice, overall.

Not true MargoChanning. That discount came out today.
They never offered tickets for "Xanadu" at $56.50 before!

Friends used this discount code to buy $56.50 tix a couple of weeks ago:

Margo, darling... I repeat... They never offered $56.50 tickets before (ever).
What you just posted offers $75.00 as the lowest price.
The offer I posted includes $56.50 tix & is SO new in fact, it's not even on Broadwaybox.com yet.
Maybe your friends got $55.00 tix for Halloween. There was a one day discount for that day only.

Not sure why you're being so stubborn -- AND WRONG -- , but if you would have bothered to click on that link I provided to Broadwaybox and used the discount code that's there in that offer -- XU76BBX -- at www.broadwayoffers.com you would see a box appear with the following info:
________________________________________________________________

Broadwaybox.com offer for tickets to XANADU at
the Helen Hayes Theatre.
Weekdays - Select Orchestra: $75
Tuesday - Thursday and Saturday matinees:
Select Mezzanine - $56.50
Friday, Saturday, Sunday: $85
All prices include a $1.50 facility fee. This offer is
valid from 10/19/07 through 12/23/07 excluding
Saturday evenings.
This offer is NOT VALID for Center Orchestra rows
C-N. Offer not valid for performances from
11/22/07 - 11/24/07
________________________________________________________________

That's right: "This offer is valid from 10/19/07"
As I said, it's been on Broadwaybox for WEEKS now -- friends used it two weeks ago. And also notice it CLEARLY says
"Select Mezzanine: $56.50"

Next time DARLING, click on the link and check out your facts before calling someone incorrect when, in fact, you're the one who doesn't know what he's talking about.

For a second there, I thought Margo might actually be incorrect about something. I immediately went to the window to see if the Earth had shifted on its axis, and to look for the four horsemen of the apocalypse. Eventually I came back to the computer and saw that Margo was right and that all was right with the world.
Pheww!!! That was a close one!!!

So, can I ask? Reading the weekly grosses means nothing, really? I always check boxofficemojo for movie results and on here for Broadway. Though that one guy certainly scared me off from making any comments.

Doctored up? How could I doctor up a discount code that's been on Broadwaybox for weeks? You think I have some magical power to rewrite Broadwaybox's discount codes (I wish). There's ONLY ONE discount listing on Broadwaybox for XANADU -- the same one I linked the first time and it's ALWAYS offered mezz seats for $56.50, going all the way back to when it was first listed on 10/19.

Why can't you just admit you're wrong and apologize? Why blame me? It's hardly my fault that this discount offer for mezz seats has been out there for weeks and you didn't know about it.

Jeffrey. Go to Broadwayoffer.com and use the code. I did. It seems pretty black and white to me. Are you so devoted to Xanadu that you don't want to accept that they have been offering 56.50 seats for 3 weeks now? It's Ok, that doesn't mean the show is going to close soon.

I see where you're confused -- and boy are you confused. There's no doctoring involved. What I was quoting was the ACTUAL offer as it is listed at Broadwayoffers.com NOT the abbreviated version that Broadwaybox has. Broadwaybox's listing doesn't mention the mezz part of the discount. I guess you don't realize that Broadwaybox often doesn't include every detail for each code they have in their listings (and also Broadwaybox's listings are often wrong -- NEVER rely on what's printed there; they're only good for they codes list, NOT the details). You ALWAYS have to take the code and actually go to Broadwayoffers.com to see ALL of the details that code covers. Just because Broadwaybox left out the mezz offer doesn't mean that that code doesn't cover the mezz as well.

AGAIN, GO TO BROADWAYOFFERS.COM and put in the discount code that's in my first post and tell me what it says. If it isn't word-for-word what I cut and pasted above I'll give you a million dollars.

And stop making idiotic accusations -- you're making yourself look bad enough as it is.

I'm in no way confused about anything. You just made all that up. Once an offer is posted on Broadwaybox they don't change it(without a new code) & everybody knows that.

I guess you owe me a million dollars. Who looks bad now Margo?

It seems that Jeffrey is unable to follow instructions. Maybe you should have actually tried the link instead of running to the Fanadu thread to try and recruit like-minded fools to listen to you.

Sigh.

I give up. I take it you're afraid to go to Broadwayoffers.com, enter the code from Broadwaybox and see that it does in fact offer mezz seats for $56.50 -- and has since 10/19/2007 -- because you just can't admit you're wrong.

How utterly childish. Grow up. I'd hate to be you.

And yes - I'm asking the fanadus to tell what they know to be true. If I wanted anyone to lie I would have PM'd them. I have nothing to hide.
