WOW! Bad week.

The August: Osage County numbers really smart - here's hoping great reviews on Nov 20th change that...
Also, considering there was no one at Hairspray on Wednesday, that 80% is pretty impressive.

Legally Blonde is still holding steady, i think this one will be around awhile
Xanadu however ....ouch
re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/4/2007#6
Posted: 11/5/07 at 6:06pmXanadu has an avergae ticket price of $77, which isn't bad. It means the producers still believe there is some wiggle room should they feel the need to increase attendance by discounting my heavily.

You might consider Legally Blonde's numbers as "holding steady" but they lost 153k from the previous week.
Serious ouch for Drowsy. Does anyone think it's possible that Drowsy's producers might have the production re-reviewed in the hopes of boosting numbers a bit?

The most startling thing with Legally Blonde is the show's average ticket price, which went down $16.00 from the week before.

What a shame for such a very good show.

I think Drowsy's Advertising went too far out of sync with what the show really is.
Bob Saget has fans but does he have enough of them who want to see a Musical? It is still a little early to tell. The advertising for Saget may help the Tour some though? Just by getting the name out there.
There is a lot of good stuff though opening up right now. I wish they did a bigger number for Broadway on Broadway. It's testing time to see if this Bob S. can sell the show.

I'm sorry... I'm a Fanadu & that's 'just wrong'
I have yet to bring somebody to "Xanadu" (7 times now) that didn't love it.
Is it just the name "Xanadu" that keeps people away... or the cost? You're probably right Mr Matt... time for a big discout.

those numbers mean nothing. i still cant get over how you all pour over these meaningless numbers.
the numbers they report are minus all of the royalty payments. that mean sfter the producers, the writers, the music director, the scenic designer, the lighting designer, the sound designer, the production heads, etc. have been paid.
how on earth can you make any judgements on the reported grosses if you have no clue as to what those numbers mean?
being a fan of theater doesnt mean that you have any idea about the business side of it.

Thanks for your input localonecrew - but as a business person (even though not in the theatre) I well understand the difference between 'Gross Earnings' and 'Net Earnings', as do the the largest percentage of the people posting here. The thread is Broadway Grosses not Broadway Nets, that indicates to me that the numbers listed would be 'before' any deductions are made. Maybe it's different with theatre, but what's left after deductible costs, salaries, etc in my business is my 'Net'.
But thanks anyway for assuming we don't know what we're talking about because we comment about the weekly grosses.

Posted: 11/6/07 at 6:54amThe Broadway figures that are reported are indeed the show's net gross, after the deductions have been made.

Thank you Smaxie. I appreciate your clarifying it in a tasteful manner as opposed to insulting and rude. Guess I'm just a theatre fan and no more.
My apologies localone, you were correct. However, I still think you could have made your point in a less insulting manner.

Posted: 11/6/07 at 9:51amIs it even possible for Mermaid to kick YF's green a$$? The Hilton is larger than Mermaid's theatre.
re: Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 11/4/2007#23
Posted: 11/6/07 at 9:54amIt's possible, but would be very hard. You correctly mentioned the disparity in the number of seats. YF's base price for orchestra and dress circle is 120, while Little Mermaid's is 110. Also the cheapest priced seats for YF are 50 and LM's are 40.

Posted: 11/6/07 at 6:15pmlocalonecrew - I work on business models all day every day. I do know what those numbers represent, which is why I analyze a variety of factors before I comment. I don't presume to know whether or not it means a show will close or even if it is in danger, but I can get a general idea of a show's progress based on the trend of just a few variables and hypothesize strategies in which they might improve based strictly on the presented data.
