Unsold premium tickets become regular prices tickets become discounted tickets become papered tickets, all dependent on the market's interest. Watch Lion King tickets, they cost more when school is out, etc., their goal is to make the maximum amount of money, and they do.
Lower ticket prices isn't the answer, though. Louis CK found this out with his tours. If he lowered the prices to make it more affordable for fans, he also reduced the buy-in for the secondary market to buy up most of the venue, so even less fans got tickets than with a higher price. Premium tickets were a reaction to people buying $145 tickets and selling them for $500 on StubHub.
So, if someone is selling a ticket at that price, I'd rather it be a theater producer than a scalper.
