I think Webber, like Sondheim, wanted to have a definitive record of the show and as the 20th anniversary in London was approaching, decided to OK the DVD release.

I'd just like to say that the DVD of CATS that is out is in no way a definitive record of the show. Over thirty minutes of material was removed for the DVD version. Even if you're not a fan - that is not the definition of definitive. Many of us were and continue to be very upset...

I know that it's kind of offtopic now but Aladdin is still playing at Disney's CA Adventure, why does everyone keep saying it's closed?

"Someone please tell me- when the hell did gravity become the enemy? How has an essential force of nature, something that makes it possible for life to even exist on this planet, come to deserve the scorn and hatred of every teenage girl with no head voice?"- Broadway Matt

Ah, OK, Aladdin at DCA and Snow White at DL. Thought it was replaced.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
