I think it would either be fantastic or dreadful.

Its something with alot of potential to be great, yet if not done properly - watch out!

Yes, Don't Cry Out Loud was a pop song. I don't see why they couldn't do a Broadway night - so much of Broadway is pop and has been for years.

That said, I'm not watching this year. Last year did me in.

It's kinda silly to think Broadway is too "mainstream" a sound or old fart style for these hot young hipsters, in light of past winners like Kelly Clarkson and Clay Aikin. I'd suggst that, say, Adam Pasqual and Heather Headley (to name but two obvious examples among a sea) are a lot more authentic -- and soulful -- than popster whitebreads like Clay and Kelly.

Last year's Broadway night was no more or less successful at showcasing the talent than a bunch of 30 year old Stevie Wonder songs. I think the synergy between broadway and mainstream pop happened a long time ago. Unless they were required to do R&H or Jerome Kern, it's just business as usual. But then, who can forget Fantasia's Summertime? I doubt Gershwin would've minded her beautiful take on that classic, which arguable comes from the world of opera, too. (How about Opera Night? Bice singing "Che gelida manina.." from BOHEME? Anyone remember when Linda Rondstadt did BOHEME at the public? With Garry Morris, the country star?)
